Man, that thing is sick!!! Must be nice to have those kind of funds sitting in the bank for a project like that.:flipoff: Oh well, someday, supercharger sounds like it could be in my (very distant) future. Need to save my pennies.
That computer is completely off the hook though, what a cool idea-- Joel?:jester:

Sweet FJC.

Bet he is not saying "I could have had a V8 (4Runner)!". I know I have been saying more and more "I should have got a V6". :( I WANT A SUPER CHARGER! I love having positive displacement vehicles.........this no-super-charger-for-the-V8 crap sucks!

Beat me to it volhoo, I just read that whole thread last night. It's amazing the work that guy had done to the thing. It's basically a full race truck. I can't imagine what it costs to have people with the last names Demello and Donahoe both working on your truck together for that long....

You might wanna email A2A and discuss this with him. I know he mentioned somewhere in the link above (around page 18??) that he thought a cheap laptop would have been better eg - keyboard, CD/DVD etc

For more from him read this about his setup

http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/stereo-electronics/48237-getting-there-google-earth.html

The setup for reading maps is kinda bewildering for me

I'm pretty sure he was also less than excited by the Furuno antenna but you have to check on the details of that also - it was a year or more ago I first read that thread - he's probably improved upon the setup by now.

In the T4R the laptop mounts I have seen are not very passenger friendly. Again, you might want to check on that and see who has actually run trails/expeditons with a passenger in the front and a laptop.

TRD also has a supercharger kit for the V6 Tacoma and FJC. I'm sure the FJC kit can easily be made to work on a 4Runner. From a packaging perspective I like the TRD kit better though.

FJCcrawler
06-23-2008, 04:59 PM
The only bad thing about the URD kit is you can't run a snorkel with it because it uses a completely different throttle body position and intake.

Where as the TRD keeps the factory air box and will still be able to work with a snorkel, although the TRD SC doesn't generate as much power as the URD, I would still go with the TRD one.

I was talking to him two days ago (face to face) and he's in the process of relocating the battery and other components such as the air compressor, to the rear of the FJ because of the cramped nature of his engine compartment. This means that he has even less room to pack gear into the back of his FJ. But there is no denying that Todd has an extreme FJ Cruiser.

uphill is th 2nd pic a photshop? It looks like it has the long rear arms for the long travel rear like Baja racer FJC, also it has a filler plug on the passenger side too. Or has it now been fitted with the rear long travel suspension (would love to see more info on it).

Yes, that was his concept photochop. He does have the Lucrum lights on top now.

He's also got a winch bumper because "I" installed the winch on it personally.

And he's running a Ford 9" on the rear (Currie).

He has a newer NEW front bumper that is going on next week. A redesigned version of the one in the photos. I've seen it on the floor of DeMello's shop and it looks cool. I believe he'll have a winch in it. He's running a lot of wire back to the battery in the rear (new position for the battery) including the new winch power line (big harness).

In the T4R the laptop mounts I have seen are not very passenger friendly. Again, you might want to check on that and see who has actually run trails/expeditons with a passenger in the front and a laptop.

Just noticed this write up on using Google Earth with in-car internet with an air card, with everything for "free" ... except, of course, for the $60 a month air card fee (in addition to your cell phone fee) and the major problem that I very seldom get any cell reception in the places I go. I used to be able to use my cell phone tethered to the laptop for $20/month (though even when I had a signal the bandwidth was too slow for Google Earth) but they have now raised that to $60 also which I won't do--but, again, I very seldom have a cell signal in the boonies anway so it isn't a big loss.

A simple, inexpensive solution is to use DeLorme or Garmin maps on the computer for $100 which don't go away with cell reception. I use DeLorme Topo on the computer because I like the terrain information, and have Garmin City Navigator NT in the Garmin 60CSx that I use as a receiver and backup to the computer, and that, also, is surprisingly good for small 4wd trails. Both have points of interest like gas stations, motels, campgrounds and stuff, though I doubt any of these are complete.

You may already have seen my simple laptop mount for a 4R that only blocks the cup holders, is usable by driver or passenger and works great, made out of good plywood and held in place with bungees (not on in this shot) and easily removable.

http://www.ronnehrig.com/truckpics/slides/nav_1338.html

My hard drive is a normal platter, but a solid state hard drive would be even more durable bouncing around off-road.

Though this is a tablet, I sometimes use it with the screen in the up position, so a regular laptop could work also, though anything larger than a 12" screen size would be more imposing. When it's up, I just fold it down to access the radio and climate control, then fold it back up again. The nice thing about the tablet is the stylus which makes accessing the maps much faster, but with a regular laptop the Fellowes Micro Trac Handheld Trackball is very helpful, especially for a passenger (If you're driving it takes more time to find the mouse pointer and move it, than just touching the screen with a stylus).

So he ended up not having a winch on the new bumper in Ouray. There isn't room for it either, so it doesn't seem like it will be added later. But man, Todd's rig is amazing in person. Sol's is just as cool though, one of the nicest SAS's I've ever seen.

Did you see the pictures? They show the laptop mounted and the bracket separately. The bracket is just held down to the console with bungee cords and the laptop is held to that with one thin bungee around the back of the bracket.

I just walked in from three weeks in New Mexico so am kind of fuzzy at the moment. Let me know if the pictures don't clear that up enough.

aw no 03-05 or a v8

We are juggling many different projects. The V8 applications will likely be after the first of the year. We have already done some LASER scanning of the 4.7, but more needs to be done.

For the 03-04 1GR-FE engines, our advanced engine management is not compatible with those years. It does not appear to be cost effective to rework the adapter board to fit those two years. If the kit proves popular it may be revisited.
