Team Donahoe’s Toyota FJ Cruiser to make competitive debut!
Corona, CA - Team Donahoe expands its racing fleet and sponsors with the launch of their new Class 3 Toyota FJ Cruiser Race Truck! KC Hilites and Nitto Tires have partnered with Team Donahoe to be the title sponsors of Team Donahoe Toyota FJ Cruiser. The Team Donahoe/KC Hilites/Nitto Tires Toyota FJ Cruiser will make its competitive debut at the upcoming SCORE Baja 250 in Ensenada, MX March 10, 2007. This racing debut comes after numerous testing sessions and a midnight run to Barstow the week of the race for a final test of suspension and lighting. Once the final test session was complete, Kreg Donahoe, owner of Team Donahoe, felt confident that their newest creation is ready to be unleashed on the off-road world.
This new Toyota FJ Cruiser platform presented a challenge and opportunity to Team Donahoe. Both presented themselves in racing SCORE Class 3 instead of Stock Mini. The new class allowed Team Donahoe to let their suspension prowess loose on a more unlimited truck platform and challenged them to create aftermarket suspension components that could run on the truck and remain competitive in a more unlimited class.
Team Donahoe had an edge in designing new suspension for the race truck as Donahoe Racing was one of the first companies to have a suspension system available for the new Toyota FJ cruiser. Donahoe Racing worked closely with Toyota marketing in developing their launch strategy for the new FJ while the vehicle was in the planning stages. Donahoe Racing then received their FJ from Toyota as a result of their involvement with them on aftermarket suspension products for the FJ Cruiser which included Toyota’s SEMA effort. Donahoe Racing’s development for the Toyota FJ has come full circle with the launch of Team Donahoe’s/KC Hilites/Nitto Tire Toyota FJ Race Truck. The race truck, though competing in an unlimited class, is still outfitted with several off-the-shelf components available for the FJ owner. This race truck, along with Rod Millin’s Stock Mini FJ Cruiser, will help to showcase the versatility of the new Toyota FJ Cruiser.
Team Donahoe’s Toyota FJ Race truck will be piloted by Donahoe Racing’s head engineer Dylan Evans and Kreg Donahoe’s long time racing partner Steve Krieger. These two gentlemen were hand picked by Team Donahoe owner, Kreg Donahoe to pilot this new truck in the SCORE Desert Racing series. Dylan has an innate knowledge of the truck as he, along with Kreg, designed and built the truck. Krieger is a veteran off-road racer who has raced off-road for more than 20 years, competing in just about every truck class with different teams, including Team Donahoe. Steve and Dylan had both been drivers on Team Donahoe’s other racing effort, but were pulled off of that truck and put in charge of the driving for Team’s new Toyota FJ Cruiser.
The Team Donahoe/KC Hilites/Nitto Tire Toyota FJ Cruiser is also sponsored by Banks Power, who is developing performance power products for the new FJ and using the Team Donahoe FJ as their research vehicle. Team Donahoe’s FJ Cruiser effort is also supported by Norwalk Toyota Off-Road Superstore, MasterCraft Seats, who put very sturdy and comfortable 3G seats in the new FJ. KMC Wheels supplied their Enduro Bead Lock wheels. Total Chaos helped Team Donahoe out with front suspension components. Currie Enterprises supplied the Ford 9” rear-end. Precision Gear supplied gears for the new FJ, which is also outfitted with Light Racing’s jounce shocks. Anaheim Hills Auto Body painted the new paint scheme for the race truck. ADS wiring supplied wiring services and Kartek Off-Road assisted Team Donahoe with outfitting the rest of the new Toyota FJ cruiser to make it race ready.
