People often don't believe me but straps and ropes can be dangerous and need a blanket to keep them from flying thru the air dangerously. In Oz its a common prcatice to put a blanket or bag on any strap or rope.

Watch this video of a snatch strap that breaks

(disregard the fact that the vehicle attempting the recovery is doing so in reverse!)

and another...

Here's a good view of two ropes being connected together (notice the piece of wood between the ropes to make it easier to seperate them) and the use of bags/blankets

and check out the shackle that became embedded in the spare tire!

Straps are no joke, I had one come back and smack 4R rear window recently, luckily it didn't break. I know of one local club here that banned kinetic straps because of how catastrophically they fail(or how the associated parts fail during strap recovery). On the other side, my buddy was trying to winch out my other buddies unimog with his rubicon and his cable broke and it snapped back maybe a few feet. I know, Wrangler vs unimog...don't ask.

Yeah, with all that pressure on the straps, it's good to stand clear.
