People often don't believe me but straps and ropes can be dangerous and need a blanket to keep them from flying thru the air dangerously. In Oz its a common prcatice to put a blanket or bag on any strap or rope.

Here's a good view of two ropes being connected together (notice the piece of wood between the ropes to make it easier to seperate them) and the use of bags/blankets
