Here's where I decided to place mine.

I decided on these locations as they are screwed into removable panels so if the location doesn't work in the future I can cheaply buy replacement panels. As a matter of fact i might buy replacements now so that I have no problem in years to come. I test drove over some rough terrain and they stayed in their places.

For me, some of the location decision was based on - wanting easy access to extinguisher (in an emergency it should be one of the first things you should be able to reach) and the inverter needed to be in the rear as I expected anything I would run from it would be located in the back eg kids TV monitor and playstation (notice I said "kids" ;) )

I played around with mounting on the beack of the rear seats but I didn't want to loose the functionality of the space to be a bed area, and when we have been camping a few times with the kids, its a cool place for them to hang out at night to watch a video with friends so again I didn't want this equipment to be in the way. I also find myself using the back to carry long items - packing boxes, surfboards, timber etc, and think again that on the rear seats would be inconveient for me.

I look at mounting them from the ceiling (even maybe in a custom box) but it would be too much work and the inverter is pretty heavy. There was no room under the front seats that would give good fresh air to the inverter and also would be inconvenient for hookups.

I'd have liked the extinguisher in the drivers area but again could find no useable space where you wounldn't kick it each time you or your passenger climbed out, especially when trail driving.

Good idea. Will the cables to the inverter pose a problem when you need to get the factory jack and tools out?

I just put my fire extinguisher in the rear door panel behind the driver, so it is easy to reach. Might be a problem with kids in the back though.

Quick disconnect wiring loom allows the panel to be removed easily without hindering tool bag although I don't think I'll probably ever use those tools or jack ;)

Yeah, my kids always use their door spaces for water bottles, IPod and such.

Well I just spoke to the technical support at Vector Industries and he told me that these inverters must only be mounted flat due to the weight of some of the components inside that will appaerntly fail early if mounted sideways (upright).

He also said it should be mounted on foam pads 3x3 to provide additional vibration absorption and air ciculation.

Finally a 250amp fuse as close to the battery on the positive wire is warranted.

Guess it's back to the drawing board.
