Why do people say no good for off roading ? I do a lot of off road , but limited to mud, ruts , fire lane trails , farm road trails ( not rock crawling ) I understand the point of over extending the shocks , but what other reason would there be .

Much stiffer ride and bad articulation as well.

Spacer lifts typically only raise the ride height of the truck. It doesn't improve the flex, handling or control fo tthe truck. Normally when raising the truck you woudl like slightly more shock travel to improve flex and stability on the trail, also to make the ride better ooffroad as you have more wheel travel to soak up bumps. You would like the suspension stiffer to improve on road handling with the raised center of gravity. And asloa firimer shocks to help control the rig when drivng off road so it bounces around less and doesn't bottom out as easy.

They may give a little more clearance but at the sacrifice of less flex ...and all the aforementioned. ...they make your truck look sweet though.

...I did meet up with the FJ trailteams and all they had were spacers (big ones too) and they seemed to do purdy good though.

I think from what I would be doing I'd be ok with the less flex , I wouldm't go hog wild maybe like a 2/1 CF or ??? any other Ideas ?? Do you still have those 18" trd rims on your truck ? those are so sweet !!!

If I didn't have the Xreas I would just do new springs and shocks . 2" would be fine at most.

i ran daystar spacers on stock xreas and it was fine. it does well and altho the shocks could be longer, it works fine. I did a bunch of stuff that way and was happy with it.

Crusier , do you remember what DS kit you had ?

I think it was a 2" spacer kit.
if you do a lot of offroad, something like the OME is really worth the money.

If you are DIY, the spacer is an inexpensive way to lift the truck. If you are paying to install, it doesn't really make financial sense imo.

In Autozone the other day, i saw these little spacers you put inbetween the actual coils to keep them from compressing. They were like $35 and they said they were good for about 2-2.5 inches of lift. These seem to be the ultimate way to go for the penny-pincher

Those spacers that go in the coils dont work in the front they hit the strut and in the rear they fall out when jack the truck up or hit a bump. I tried them on my 3rd gen. dont waste your money.

Why not remove the Xrears? You could get 2 new bilstein struts that have a adjustable bottom plate for 190$ then order the daystar rear spacer from wheelers for 150$ or get the DR rear springs for 200$. For the rear shocks get some cheap one from auto parts store to hold you till you can get good ones. You would be able to do this in stages. And in the end I will only have cost about 200$ more than daystar.

I think spacers are cool for people who only offroad occasionally and aren't too serious about "building" a trail/excursion truck.

I was pretty happy with my Daystar spacers for a long time.

I personally can't really see the point of a leveling kit (1" on front) tho. A 2/2.5 combo is a great idea for the occasional offroader.

I do a lot of off road play but not rock crawling stuff.

I don't want to get rid of the Xreas as of yet .

I thought like you did for a long time. I have a spacer lift and enjoyed the look. It helped for tire clearance off-road too. When I kept reading people making comments as you see above I thought "come on, how much better can it be?" I also have a lot of experience off-road and in lifted vehicles. I recently swapped out the spacers to an OME setup. All I can say is OMG! IT rides better on road by a long shot compared to the spacer lift. Off-road it is another world. Even on fire roads in Georgia it made a big difference.

Even after putting 55k+ miles on a spacers lift I would say avoid them and step up to a spring lift.
