Well the cheapest way to lift it without changing the shocks is to get a c/o spacer, but eventually you might want to get a full C/O kit.:D

If you have the 5100 shocks move the collar.

Are you talking about the Bilstein 5100 ride-height adjustable shock,
because it doesn't look like the straight 5100 has a collar to move does it?
http://www.bilstein.com/offroad.php#5100pre
The 5100 ride-height adjustable shock isn't available for a 4R according to Bilstein, but they're working on one for the '07 FJ (expected fall 2008), which appears to use the same HD shock as the 3rd-4th gen 4Rs, so maybe by fall we could have a ride-height adjustable 5100 for the 4R.
Did I miss something?

I was refering to the ride height adj. I had them on my 4r just order the ones for a 05+ taco. 190 delivered. Combine them with Ome 884s great combo for a 4r with a ARB bumper.

The factory Bilsteins are probably not the adjustable model.
Lowest cost will be spring spacers.
You can use the OME coils on the factory shocks; but the shocks may not have enough rebound control, for the stiffer springs.

That front shock for the Taco 05 BE5-C475-HO is the same number that I just found on a different page listed for the 07 FJ. The rear doesn't show for the FJ. The HD series for the FJ is the same as for the 2003-2007 4R. Guess it's probably the same in this series too.
I asked the person at Bilstein many times if there is a shock that works on a 4r that is made for a different vehicle. "Oh no, sir, my lists are updated every day. We're very good at this." :moon:
They did say if I used a shock from a different vehicle they couldn't guarantee it (or maybe just gaurantee it would work), or something to that affect. Not sure if that is relevant or not.

The rear off a FJ will work the rear taco needs some work to get it to work. But the front is direct bolt in. When you call bilstein ask for their off road speciality guy there is one for the east and west coast. I talked to a guy in North carolina and he had everything I wanted to know valving ext length compressed length what the ends were eye or stud. The most likely cause is just like gibson exhuast they have not fitted it ti a 4r yet so they cant say it works. Gibson still will not sell a exhuast to a person with a V6 because they cant get anyone to come to their shop to get a test fit with a v6.

Thanks. I did call the east office but didn't get past the sales people probably.
I'm thinking, right now, of putting these on with the stock coils for now, pushing it up an inch or so with the collar, and seeing how I like that with Firestone air bags inside the coils in the rear. Maybe swap the rear shocks to a 5100 or HD.

Where did you find them for $190?

I called the Bilstein east coast office and they connected me to Shane in the West Coast Office (apparently they don't have a specialist in the East coast).
Shane confirmed that the BE5-C475-H0 will work in the 2006 4R with stock springs, and that the HD rear shock, BE5-C514-H0 would make a fine set.
Just ordered the rear from truckspring.com $142.36 /pair shipped.
and the front from ajusa.com $190.45 / pair shipped.
My plan is to start by raising the front an inch or so with the Bilstein. The Firestone Airbags at normal unloaded setting sound like they raise the back by 1/2 inch so that should work well together. I could probably go up to the next level on the shock (not sure what that is, but it goes up to 2.5") and just be leveling the front, leaving the air bags to create some extra breakover and departure height if they're pumped up.

Good to see you found them sorry for the delayed response. I would go to the second notch on a 4th gen with stock springs the second notch is 1.75 in of lift. It leaves a little rake to the front. Put up some pictures when you get them installed.

Thanks, that's what I figured also. The rear Bilsteins and air bags with only a few lbs of pressure added one inch, leaving something over 10" under the gas tank--glad to have that. I can add 2" or so with the bags when I need it. So 1.75" in front will level the front by .75" compared to stock which should be good. I'm still waiting for the spring seat that was missing from one of the front shocks, but it should come in this week and I'll get the fronts on and swap the front end link bushings to poly while they're apart. :D

This and the next two pics. It is noticeably taller to get into.
http://www.indiana.edu/~nehrigr/truckpics/slides/4Rafterlift-2435.html
Measurements with 4 Bilsteins (rear HDs) front 5100 height adjustables at the third setting of 1.75" and the rear Firestone air bags pretty much deflated are (from the ground to the center of the wheel wells):
LF 35 1/8
RF 35 1/8
LR 36 1/2
RR 36 1/4
Leaving clearance under all the low bits (not counting rear diff) at around 10" which I'm pretty pleased with. The air bags could give me at least another 2" in the rear which would really help if I needed it.
I'd say it corners much flatter. The ride is a little different, probably a bit firmer, but nothing objectionable. I haven't had it on any really rough roads, that will be a test of these shocks, esp on washboard.
Just dropped it off for an after-lift alignment.
Did I mention... IT'S DONE :D
