SOme of you might have seen the ARB 4Runner at Sema. Well Scott at expidition west was lucky enough to get to use it. ARB goodies include, bumper, suspension, front and rear locker, roof rack, sliders, and probably some other goodies. Pity they are dragging their heels getting the bumper and roof rack etc. availible ot the public.

interesting bolt-ons at the bottom corners of the ARB bumper...like skid plates?
One has to join his site to read the details. I'll do that later tonite, but is he happy so far with the Runner?

Yes, he seems very impressed by it so far. H eloves the engine tranny and ride. He is also very impressed by the traction, having ATRAC and lockers. Gives more options in cetain situations to get through with less slide in off camber situations. Pretty much reflects the opinion expressed in 4wdtoyownwer by the guy who took the FJC through the Rubi.

Andries,
Okay, no more BS posts for me. But, this guy has expressed interest in building ARB style bumpers for 4th gen 4Runners. http://shrockworks.com/index.htm
You've probably read some of his info on t4r.org. Below, is the letter that I typed to him. We'll see what he says. But in one of his replies on t4r, armed with the current list of 51 of us, he is a worthy choice. When you get a chance, look at some of the product he's designed for Nissan and other brands.
Jim,
You probably have already either spoken with or e-mailed some members of Toyota-4Runner.org http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=144444#post144444 and http://www.toyota120.com/forum/index.php??
We are tired of waiting for ARB to someday build and ship their bull bar bumper. They have already made one (prototype) and showed it @ SEMA, but that's the only one.
Here it is on their 4Runner, http://www.toyota120.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2411#post2411
As far as I can tell, it looks like you build a good product, but we're surprised to see that your product line up doesn't include the #1 brand of vehicle in the world, Toyota. And 4th gen 4Runner's are the vehicle that we're concerned about right now. Most fabbers that we've come across do most Toyota 4x4 vehicles, but for some reason, they all seem to be dragging their feet on the tough as nails 4Runner, a vehicle that has been in production since 1984.5. Anyway, if you get a chance, get back to me, and/or link on to our forums and read for yourself. We have sent similar messages to ARB, along with our significant list of 4th gen 4Runner owners who have been waiting for them to step up for our particular truck. It's not that they don't make products for Toyota's, they do make products for most Toyota applications, just not this one yet.
I/we look forward to you comments and ideas.
Thanks for your time.

P.S. We've also been looking for someone to fabricate new skid plates as well for our 4th gen 4Runner's, and have also been unsuccessful finding anyone to do this project as well.

This looks like an interesting project(s). Looks like they make some good stuff.
I suggest start a new thread and see who is interested in joining it for a bumper. This way we don't mix up the threads. I must say I'm disappointed in ARB and open to other options. However the front bumper is very important, especially if you plan to use a winch. So we need to asses the various options carefully. That said these guys look pretty solid, so start a new thread and we can take it from there. I hope they are interested and can make a bumper and take pics so we can look at it. Their prices look attractive too.

Options, i.e. multiple bumper vendors, are a good thing and certainly help the 4th Gen. community.
For me, personally, ARB is the better option as I noted in an earlier post:
I have my name on the ARB list on TR4.org and would throw down my CC in a heartbeat for the ARB. I'm still straddling the fence on the Shrockworks bumper and am closely following the thread for developments. I hope others understand my reservation and by no means is this a slight against Shrockworks. Their products look first rate, however the solid history of ARB products and thier proximity to my home, both in WA State, make the ARB for me a slam dunk. I'd also like to see a production bumper from Shrockworks in person but that seems unlikely. Unfortunately, as I've been in direct contact with ARB in Renton and am not encouraged, Shrockworks is probably our only option. Decisions, decisions............
I wish nothing but the best for Shrockworks and the T4R bumper, I'm just trying to keep the board up to date.
YMMV

We appreciate the effort, and yes, ARB is a good company, and have other products that I might consider. But, their lack of interest, up to this point is mind boggling. Jim @ Shrockworks has my CC # and I can't wait to dump my plastic bumper and get this bad boy on my034runner!! :D

Guys lets try to stay on topic with this thread. I have had my share of frustration with ARB, and I believe many others as well. The thing is that ARBUSA's hands are tied by ARB corp in Oz. The last communication I have had with Tim Lund (probably the best person to answer the production question at ARB) was that the bumper was not officially approved, however there seems to be unofficial approval.
I agree more choice is better in the long run. However given the long history of getting inconclusive responses about the ARB bumper, I do not consider it an option till there is official approval and delivery date in the US.
Once the the bumpers are actually availible and in people's hands we should by all means compare them. In a seperate thread of course. At this point I know where I put my money, but different people have different opinions and criteria.

Hello again ARB,
I check ARB's website weekly, but still no word on the the development of ARB products for the 4Runner. Any feedback yet on product testing that Scott Brady, Expeditions West, has been doing? So far looks like the Bullbar, Side-steps/rock-guards, OME suspension and Lockers have been handling well through the various paces he has put them through. Any idea when we can start placing orders for Bullbars?
Many thanks,

It's not that there's anything that is so great about ARB's Bullbar. The Shrockworks looks sweet and I'm sure it will perform just the same. I'm just making my choice based on the fact that ARB has been developing Bullbars for over 30 yrs.; and in a land where if your equipment fails you it could mean being eaten by Hiena's who chase your carcuss down with all your VB, I think they're sure to make the best quality bullbars available. The fact that their capital allows them to use the latest CAD and CNC systems as well as outsource other companies and universities to do a number of vibration, strength and crash testing, provides me with a little more comfort in knowing that if I do run into some Alaskan traffic, the moose will most likely bounce off my Runner, as opposed to calling shot-gun and asking me to share my coffee on our way to the hospital.
There is a good chance that Shrockworks will provide better angles, that would be cool. Does anybody have any idea if you will be able to use your Hi-Lift with the Shrockworks. Also, will it provide CB mounts and/or Limb-riser attachments?
It will be nice to finally have some good bullbars and stop getting all the poo faces from the jeeps I'm seeing out there :D

The bar is leaving Australia tomorrow and we will have it here next week. We need someone local with a 2006 4Runner in order to do a test fit. Can you put the word out to your group to see if anyone is willing to help us out? We would just need the vehicle for 1 day at most. We can provide our Tacoma as a loaner for the day if necessary.

I'm guessing once they are sure it fits, they say "alright, this Bullbar, which is part#blablabla works. Let's sell it." or, if it doesn't work they probly say something to the effect of..."Damn Ausies gotsa ease off those pints yo!!" :D

I did know that the 2006 is slightly different that is why I'm worried that they want a 2006 to try it on. Will it fit my 2003 correctly? It would seem silly to me that ARB waited this long to produce one for the 4th gen and then exclude half the years of this gen. (which also means they self limited their market, there are already thousands of older 4th gen's on the road)
Why wouldn't they ask to have any year 4th gen for a fit?

I think the reasoningis that if it fits the 06 it will fit the 03-05, but with a slightly larger gap at points. Guess we will have to see how it pans out.

Yes, that the same info I've heard. As far as I know ARB shipped the bumper from Australia last week. It will takes up to 3 weeks to get it in States, then ARB-USA will test it on 2003 model. By the same time they've been looking for someone with 2006 redesigned model to fit it there and see how new grille is fitting. I saw in this forum that one of the dealerships already put Prado Deluxe bar on to 2006, but as I saw, the had an issue with grille and wings (both too long). I did also mention big gaps between bumper and fender. Interesting, if I can fit Prado Sahara bar, how difficult is it going to be????

Hi all! Great forum, and good discussions on the bull bar, etc.
Regarding the comment above: Remember, ARB is a business. They will manufacture and sell products that are anticipated to supply a return on investment. They are not trying to be unfair.
I believe that the 4Runner is a fantastic platform, and that you will now begin to see more response from the aftermarket.

Oh, and keep an eye out in Off-Road Magazine and 4WD Toyota Owner. I have 5 total articles on the ARB 4Runner going into print throughout the summer. Lots of cool adventures, etc.!
Welcome to the forum. I look forward to the articles. Looks you are enjoying the 4Runner :D

The bar is finally in the final stages of design. We should have a bar part number in the next couple of weeks and production soon after that.

Well it seems that the ARB front bumper will be availible in September sometime. Good news as there will be more choices for the 4Rs.
They seemingly finally released a part #, which implies it is definitely a go.
Part number is 3421200.
The pricing does not seem to be final yet, but you can contact your favorite ARB dealer to find out and pre-order.
Once these are out and the SW front bumper I would love to put 2 next to each other to compare the differences.

Ouch, that's a lot more than I spent on my ShrockWorks bumper!

ARB has more engineering in it. It has detailed CAD design, more curves and different look. I don't have anything against ShrokWorks, their bumper is good and works well; but I, personally, like the design of ARB better. Plain steel bumper is good off-roading, but ARB is also made for awesome look on the road and they looks like OEM. Just my 2c.
If I'd build trail rig, I'd go with cheaper SW, for daily driver with occasional off-roading - ARB.
BTW, how much is SW? SW sliders are $500, so bumper should be at least double...

It would be good to wait till we actually have the bumpers before we compare them :guitar:
This thread is about the ARB 4Runner and relevant ARB accesories.
