I was doing some work on the 4R today starting to prep it for a nice long vacation trip with the family coming out (reason I have not been out and about lately, but thatt is another story).
I found that the intake was loose at the airbox and there was some sand around the area where it connects to the airbox. I don't know how long it has been like that, but the sand looks like Pismo sand. I can only assume some got into the engine, so I took an oil sample and will send it in to check for silicone and wear metals. The oil/filter will get changed in a week or so.
Hopefully it didn't do anything serious to the engine. I'm not sure if it was me or the dealer ship that caused that, but I'm not happy either way as I have been amintaining this thign pretty well adn want to keep it for a long time.
Will post up when I get the analysis results back, I actually was hoping to do ananalysis to check for silicon on the Truflow filter, but that is no longer possible.

well I guess I will have to wait and see what comes from the oil analysis. So far the engine have never used a drop of oil between services, so it is hopefully nothing or not bad ( OK I can hope)

Are you talking about rubber hose connecting to plastic box place?

Yes, on the V8 the air filter box is mounted on the PS fender. SO the tube going from the intake box to the throttle body.
Still waiting on my oil analysis :pissed1:

Same mounting for V6, just different box and hose.
Let us know when you'll get your oil data back.

Teh V6 have the airfilter mounted to the engine so even if theintake before the filter gets loose you will still be in good shape. The V6 has less stress on the portion between the filter and the throttlebody.
Still no word back yet from Blackstone, I have a feeling my sample I send got lost or something :pissed1: Guess USPS is doing analysis in the garbage with it :spank: I alreayd changed the oil so I will only pull another sample in a month or so.

Finally got my oil analysis back. Seems like there are no issues, wear is a bit high for my liking. However I was driving pretty spirited the last oil change. Guess the true test of the Trueflow will be after my vacation trip and some good DV dust miles. I will probably hit some more dusty trails while out and about.
Attached is the report.

first time i've read an oil analysis. i wonder if the moly count being high means anything? in the end they concluded that the engine is wearing nicely, so that must be a relief.

Yeah I'm relieved. Moly is an additive they use in oil.
I also posted the report here to see what the oil experts on that site has to say, a very informative site and you can get all the info on how to read an oil analysis. I'm however not that into oil as long as I know it works well.

Andries,
your oil analysis looks good. The numbers are very similar to my FZJ80 w/ 5,000 miles on the oil.

I will pull another analysis on my next OCI, this way I wil see if the filter actaully wotks on DV roads for dust. I also want to compare the results, as mine listed was avg for a V8 with 6K miles. However I had a lot of cold starts and shirt distance driving on this oil change, and I was a bit more spirited with the right foot.
SO doing another one I will get a feel of the normal wear and also how well the air filter works. I will also get a TBN to see how feasible it is for me to do 10K changes, I will switch over to the larger M1 filter then. AT that point my warranty will be over so no issues with 5K changes anymore.
Hopefully it will serve as a good datapoint for others in the future.
