I've read through all the posts so far. Still undecided on exhaust. I love the sound of my K&N intake- makes a mean growl at WOT with my V8. Now I want some V8 rumble and bark from the exhaust, but nothing annoying.

I'm leaning towards the magnaflow catback. The website says for V6- are they the same? Anyone have a recommendation?

I'm pretty sure there is a V8 version with a different part number. IMHO the Magnaflow is the way to go, especially with the tips turned to the side behind the rear wheel.

click link and search for 2006 4runner.

V6/V8 are same part #. They don't list it for 2008's, but I don't think there were any changes after 2005... Can anyone verify?

X2, besides, if I still ad an exhaust that came out straight out the back, I would have ripped it off ages ago while offroading. :drink:

Ok, so no different part number, but the fact that Magnaflow identifies both the V6 and the V8 models tells me that they probably fitted the exhaust to both trucks to verify fitment. It just happens that the cat is probably in the same position on both V6/V8 models so a single catback will fit both models. IMHO, order it, install it and enjoy it. Just get it through an aftermarket vendor, $733 is too much, I've seen these for $485.

Just ordered it from autoanything for $566.00. I really like summit racing, but they wanted $89 truck freight shipping, autoanything is free shipping and no tax. :)

Damn, Josh220, we're going to have just about twin trucks now...

Yeah, except I am in the process of going up to 285 Nitto's. :)

Shoot, my 265's are rubbing- don't want anything bigger on my truck. I also don't have the C/O's cranked all the way up.

Also, autoanything has 10% off on any item over $150- ends tonight. Just called them up and got $56 off! So magnaflow for $500 shipped. Not bad.

In my opinion, an exhaust wont do much in terms of power, unless you are s/c or turbo-ed. What I did was, replace the muffler, cut out the resonator, and bend the tip out the side. It probably doesnt have any power gains BUT it does sound mean at WOT. For me, thats all I wanted, I figure a cat back wouldnt add that much HP. :2cents

I saw a thread where a guy put on a magnaflow and made 9hp over stock, but took it off because his wife was driving it. When you only have 260HP at the crank, 9hp at the wheel is a pretty big difference. Besides, I'm doing it for the sound, not so much the power.

Does this fit the 08 V8? I was told it only fit the earlier v8's?

I'll report back, the box is sitting here in the living room.

The Magnaflow's are shipped with both parts, the V6, and V8. As far as I know, it's an 03+ system, meaning 08's are included. I had one put on my 07 V8 and it's compatible for 03-06 (I got it brand new off of craigs list from a guy who never installed his). An 08 is no different than an 07.

Yup, Josh220 is right- both pipes are included. I'm very, very impressed with the quality of this kit. Sound is great, although it could be louder. At least the wife will be OK with it. Maybe it'll get louder when the muffler breaks in.

Had to drop the spare to get the stock tail pipe out, other than that, it went right in.

wow, you guys are nuts for buying pre made systems, i like designing my own routing and i hate being able to see much of the tips. plus i think the y pipe needs modded before anything alse, its very restrictive

Well thanks for the constructive input. :flipoff:

I like a well engineered, all stainless, ready to bolt in system. I just wanted it to sound better, not building a race car. How many people do custom stainless exhaust? If you could find a shop, it'll be more than $500.

you mean designing stuff that doesn't work like the "other cool stuff that doesn't work" your words dude :rotflmao:

Seriously, how many people have the time, equipment and desire to "design" and make their own exhaust?

I'm sure your local Midas will take your blueprints, fab up some headers, mandrel bend some 304 stainless tube, tig weld it up, and make 50 more HP :jester:

not sure what you meant, but what i meant was being able to put the muffler tucked tighter up and location front to back. also like being able to move y pipe to a possiable different area for better ground clearence. no midas didnt do my system, a shop that spealizes in custom stuff did, im sure every town has one. i know i paid less than 500$ with muffler, and redoing the y pipe. i guess being near to the ocean can warrant a stainless system, but even then im sure my system will get f**ked up before it rust thru.

you guys are touchy, relax a little and take a joke.
