I put in a K&N drop in filter in the truck today and noticed there is a prefilter looking piece in there. Its a white filter that is fastened in the airbox. Just wondering what its for and if I removed it, are there any ill effects? gas milage ? BTW, Hi I'm new here

its a vapor filter, i guess it absorbs fumes coming from inside the engine the engine, if a valve is open and there is raw gas in cyl. just another emmisions device. i havent heard of any performance gains or subtractions from removing it.:nono:

I took mine out and there was no difference in performance or gas mileage.
Now I just wonder if the SMOG guys will pick it up when I eventually have to get my truck smogged.

No, I hear its only to prevent unburned gases from escaping the engine after shutdown. I just wondered about the performance aspect.

Not worried about the sniffer at the exhaust, but the inspection part of things. SInce it is technically an emissions element that is now missing.
