I was wondering how the body lift can affect running boards? If they are attached to the frame, by raising body on 3/4"-1", would it make a gap between boards and doors? I looked close to them and mentioned that they have some sort of interlock for not letting dirt coming from under-body to the boards itself and doors, but I'm not sure how deep is it. Another thing, I don't remember how boards are fixed. I looked under my 4Runner a month ago, but didn't payed attention of how they are attached. Is it possible to remount them from the frame to the body?

The running boards are bolted on with 3 or 4 brackets. My recommendation, take them off and sell them on e-Bay before they get destroyed. Then, get some good quality Steel rock sliders either bolted on, or preferably, welded on. That is, if you plan on using your 4Runner in the manner that most of us do. If you don't plan on much off road driving, then you'd be okay with the stock running boards. But, as the body lift will raise the body off of the frame, you will have a gap between the body and the running boards. I don't think that you can really raise them, but I'm sure that Andries (Bulldog) would know for sure. Just my 2 cents.

The running boards bolt to the body, so when you lift the body they simple go with.

However I agree that they will get damaged easily offroad and is normally better to remove them.

I hope he knows it. He is well informed 4Runner owner :rotflmao:
The reason I don't want to take them off right now is that I'm using my 4Runner for the work. But I want it to be capable to handle off-road.

Wow, while I was writing replay, you already post your opinion.
I agree that they can be damaged, but I'm not doing such extreme off-roading. I'm in Canada and we mainly have deep forest or open terrain trails, not a rock terrain. So it's better for me, I'm not sliding on them over rocks.

By the way, talking about body lift. If installing an ARB bumper on the vehicle with body lift, is it difficult to relocate the mounts to match raised body? Simple bolt-in will make a gap between bumper and body.

Sorry can't help you with the second question as I don't know. I have not seen ARB bumper with adjustable brackets, but then again I'm not very familiar with them. I believe with the 3rd Gen most people got the TJM bumpers as they were adjustable but not the ARB bumpers. MIght be question to pose to Tim at ARB he will definitely know.

First he should finally make one for 4th Generation....

See every body, I told you Andries would know. All I know is that I beat the he*l out of my running boards, and my Master tech tore them off for me and threw them in the trash. Then welded on my All Pro Off Road rock sliders. :wavey:

Forunately I'm wrong 50% of the time and don't know what is going on the other 50% :P

Agreed sliders is probably the way to go, some people had sliders made on other vehicles that have the outer tube sit ata lower angle and stick out further, making them an effective step as with the running boards. Just an idea.

My All Pro Off Road rock sliders are like that, and they also have a "kick out" towards the back, which has come in handy, more than few times! :guns:

Unless you want your running boards to look like mine, get some rock sliders as soon as possible.

I think my plastic running boards have protected me from more expensive damage, but they are trashed!!

Come on Jason, it's time to those off of there. The sliders I got from All Pro Off Road only cost me like $280.00 or something like that. Joel has the Hanna sliders, which are good as well. What ever ones you get, they will pay for themselves!! Then we put my Revtek kit and that HDPE skid on your 4Runner, and you'll be good to go for a while, then you can save up for more serious suspension lift later.
