Hey guys,
Just wanted to know if anyone has seen a winch mounted in a factory T4R bumper. I saw one on another 4runner forum toyota-4runner.org the members name is xpdnrunner check this out. Does a company make this mount, or is it home made.

Lucrum makes a mount for the FJC, and it might be possible to adapt it for the 4Runner without too much trouble.

Just make sure you have a mount that nto only uses the end of the frame horns (where the bumper attaches), but also have bolts that go to the side of the frame rails. See Shrockworks and ARB bumper mounts for a better idea. The frame horns are not strong enough to be used for winching.

It may be worth your while to just get the Shrockworks or ARB bumper. If you do any kind of off-roading that would require a winch, you probably want a stronger bumper with better clearance as well. The front bumper on a stock 4Runner is weak sauce and is easily damaged on the trails. I speak from experience, unfortunately. :cool1:

do you have a link ??? and you have to remember, a SW bumper is almost double that, and will take you 6 months to get. look into other options, maybe a custom bumper at a local shop :cool1:

Yea I think Ill talk to local shops.... however not really any great 4wd places around so gotta find a fab shop. Cant imagine its THAT much cheaper though.

SW is like 1200 plus almost 2 in shipping but I wont spend 600 with the plans of spending that later...guess I could plan on selling the lucrum...but selling things never goes well for me.

I have an internal winch mount from Rasta4x4 in the garage... I've been meaning to put it on... I'll try to mount it this weekend and take a few pictures.

I was looking at the same warn mount, but I wonder how much work it would be to install. Wonder if it is a simple bolt in or if fabbing is required.

The Rasta 4x4 winch mount is installed, perfect fit even though it's designed for the landcruiser. I can't imagine the design being much stronger. At $450 shipped, this is not an inexpensive option, but I'd order it again tomorrow. I'll post pics later today.

This has been done in the past by a company called Safari Gard, they are out of CA. I see you already found the guy over at T4R.ORG. He owns one of the few T4Rs that the company decked out for the television series Global Extremes. I did a search him earlier tonight after reading a thread on another site. From what I have read Safari Gard is reluctant to do any one time productions without a large sum of money. I have also heard of people mounting a Warn winch plate behind the bumper as discussed above. Let me know what you decide to do, it is a mod I have been interested in since day one. The only thing holding me back is the $ involved to make this mod happen. Here is an article on the Global Extreme T4Rs that were released http://www.rockcrawler.com/features/newsshorts/03february/toyota_4runner.asp

$450 is 25% less than the Lucrum mount, and that includes shipping!

If you or a friend have some fab skills and equipment, you can obviously do it for the price of materials, beer, and what ever your time is worth.

$450 sounds pretty cheap, assuming it works properly. That is less than a set of tires, or insurance or gas for a year, etc. If you could get it for $200, and it pulled off the front of the 4Runner on the first pull, $450 would sound like a bargin.

Not trying to bust your chops; but try to be realistic about the modification costs for any 4500 lb, $25,000 vehicle. Your vehicle and possibly your life may depend on the winch mount and winch that you choose.

I like the idea of this type of winch mount, as it is a bit more stealthy; but I also know it provides no protection to the front end, like an ARB or SW bumper. It may not even work well doing anything but a straight pull, we will see.:2cents

Honestly, the Rasta 4x4 mount is the least obtrusive. But.... I have a Warn M8000 mounted in a front hitch mount. The only real difference is that mine is mounted/sticks out about 6-8 inches from where the rasta mount puts the winch. For this penalty, I gain the ability to mount my winch in the front or rear and move it as needed(assuming you do the wiring). All of this flexibility comes at the price of a slight reduction in approach/departure angle(I mean even this is questionable cuz the winch can ride inside the vehicle until needed). The aforementioned Warn M8000 is installed for $700+/- including the front hitch, mounting plate, and wiring. This give the rasta mount(albeit a very nice alternative) a run for the money, literally.
