anyone have issues with the passenger airbag light not coming on when a passenger is seated? it works when i sit in the passenger seat but when my wife sits, the indicator actually turns to "off".

she weighs half as much as me but the light is very intermittent. anyone know where the sensors are located? maybe we can apply pressure on it and activate it that way.

The front seats have sensors in the bottom to determine weight ranges, this helps to calibrate the rate and stage of airbag deployment.

It should activate with an adult in the seat though. Maybe test by adding some weight when she sit sin the seat to see if it is a failing sensor.

It is probably an item best fixed by a dealer.

I agree with andries. The sensor in the front passanger seat activates at approximately 50 lbs. I know this cause both my dogs weigh about 50 to 55 lbs. and whenever one of them jumps in the front seat the passanger airbag light activates and the seatbelt light comes on.

took it to the dealer yesterday. looks like if the person doesnt weigh enough, the airbag actually turns off in order to avoid injury to the passenger from the air bag deployment. an elderly person or a child may not be able to take the airbag explosion and it may have adverse affects to the passenger. so looks like its working as it should. but she is about 110 lbs, and it turns on and off intermittently, i think the dealer just doesnt wana do the warranty repair and turned me away.

Yes they did, because either of my dogs activate the passanger airbag when either of them sits in the front seat and my dogs only weigh 50 pounds each. I would find another dealer.

yea, ill find another dealer indeed. if the sensors are bad, would they need to change out the whole seat or just the sensors?

I would think you would be able to change out the sensors, because having to change out an entire seat would be expensive specially for someone with leather heated seats. I would think the sensors would be somewhere in the base of the seat maybe where the seat bolts to the body that would be the logical place to have them. Sensors activate at 50 pounds. 50 pounds is about an average 6 to 7 year old kid under 5 feet tall.
