Hey everybody this is my first post since I've been collecting good info from the site for months now.

My question is does a Volant CAI from a 2003 v8 4runner fit a 2006 v8 4runner? I know somebody selling one and I'd like to pick it up even if I have to pick up a part from Volant to make it fit.

thanks for you time

Welcome to the forum.

Check on Volant's site for fitment. If the same part number fits a 2003 and 2006 you're good. IMHO they should fit both years. I don't think Toyota redesigned the intake box from 2003 to 2006. Both trucks must be either V-6 or V-8. The V-6 box won't fit on a V-8 and vice a versa.

Ok, after further research, they are two different parts. The MAF sensor is different for the 2 years. The Volant intake tube has a different MAF mounting for 2003 and 2005. See pics below. All other components of the kit seem to be identical. The arrows in the pics denote the difference.

That is some great info. THANK YOU!! I was all over the Volant website and couldn't find anything except different part #'s.I ended up buying the intake from a T4R forum member so I'm going to try and make it work.

It sounds like I just need to find a way to make my MAF sensor work with the setup from a 2003. Maybe I'll have to replumb it but it seems straight forward enough.

I asked Volant about replumbing the MAF sensor and they said the height of the MAF in the pipe is different and would throw a code but that sounds like bull. If anybody knows this may be true let me know.

Yep, they are different, 03-04 is one part # and 05+ another, due to the maf.

Looks like the intake pipe MAF sensor area is a flat spot (see schematics above). Maybe you can take a thin flat piece of galvanized steel, cut out a patch and redrill a new pattern for your MAF sensor. Then epoxy the steel patch over the old MAF area trim the plactic to match the new MAF sensor pattern and install your MAF sensor.

I did end up using a piece of black plastic from a stereo install kit. I haven't epoxied it yet because I planned on using Sensor safe black RTV and let it sit for 2 days to cure. I did drive it without the epoxy and it works great but it slightly leaks air around the MAF so I'm not going to drive it until it's fixed.
