Discovered a broken rear sway bar today. Don't recall having heard of this happenig on a 4th gen. I just tied it off on the control arm until I can get it taken care of. I can't imagine how this could happen other than a rock impact. Doesn't seem to be any clear sign of one on the bar, though. Any chance this gets replaced under warranty? Or is it like askin' to get a torn skid plate replaced? :nono:

I would take it in under warranty. I can't imagine how this could have broken and no signs of rock damage or something. It looks like it might have broken inside the rubber mount.

Oh snap!

Ya, I think I might shoot for warranty. Clean it up a bit first maybe..

That’s' strange  Take it to the dealer.

Yeah, wash it first though. Tell them it's a street queen if they accuse you of breaking it.

Alright, a warranty try it will be. Considering that, if anything, I'm probably getting a little more rear articulation off-road, it might be a while before I report back on the outcome. It's going to be hard to pretend it's a mall queen unless I can do the Obi-wan hand wave and tell them, "you don't need to see the skid plates".

But I'll give the warranty a try and thanks for the feedback.

If you have a significant other, get her to take it in. The crying, I'm a girl story works pretty good :D

The vehicle is marketed as being off road capable. Unless the dealer could show me marks on the sway bar proving that a rock had slammed into it I would argue that it should be a warranty item irregardless of any off road use. Besides, I don't think the dealer cares all that much; as long as they can justify the warranty work to Toyota they will make a profit on doing the work.

Jeff,
Why don't you give me a call next week. Like on Tuesday or something. If we can get you to Brett, he can more than likely get it warrantied for you. Don't call my store on your own, call me first, that way I can get you to the correct Service writer and schedule Brett to take a look at it. I've got a few of our NVTTORA guys in with him, and they've all been happy. I think I pm'd you my phone number the other day.

Oh yeah, if that isn't hurting your ride too much, come out with us to Little Red Rock tomorrow morning. We're meeting up at the Chevron on Charleston & Pavilion, across from the Red Rock Hotel @ 10:00 am. This is a little "fun run" with our local NVTTORA people, of which both Joel (No-Ip.com) and I are members of.

Sounds great, thanks. I'll give you a call when I'm in a little better scheduling window. Might be 2 or 3 weeks but I'll take you up on it.

Can't make that one, but thanks. Have a blast.

Wow, first broken one I saw. I see no reason why it should not be replaced under warranty even if used offroad. Good luck and keep us posted.

I drove without my rear swaybar in the back from Anza to the Bay area with little issues. The front seems to be far more imporant for handling.

Fortunately the swaybar shouldn't cost more than $70 or so.

Still on vacation, just checking in from time to time when I have access. Time and access is limited.

Any update on the repair?

I haven't back from him, I told him that I'd get him into my shop to see if Brett can get it warrantied. It shouldn't much of a problem. Just want him to get with Brett, not anyone else. He's the only person I trust to take care of My034runner. Anyway, when he's ready, I'll get him in.

So Andries, where are you at on your vacation at this point? I'm sure you're having fun with the family.
Oh yeah, on a side note, I love my suspension!! Thanks for the advice!

Have fun on the rest of your vacation, and be safe! :wavey: :wavey: :camping:

Just checkin' in to report the outcome.

The sway bar is fixed. Got it replaced under warranty easy as pie thanks to Robert (my034runner) hookin' me up over at Findlay Toyota. I live over 20 miles away but it was well worth the trip.

Nice to have the tighter cornering back. And washed and waxed, too. I gotta break stuff more often. :bounce:

Thanks again Robert.
