ive just bought a sport hood & have to bolt on the scoop section, does anybody know if chalking is used to seal it? seems as if it might leak if not.

I don't see how any leak in the scoop would affect anything. You can pretty much hose the engine down to wash it.

its just the fact of it dripping down on things. i mean , in a pouring rain , driving down the highway, it must leak like a siv ,theres nothing ,not even a rubber gasket to keep water from being pushed in around the small black plastic insert. i might chalk after install just to see . dont know how engine heat will affect it tho.

the water, snow or dirt will not hurt the motor in any way, on my 99, I cut out the plastic cup, to allow more cool air into the engine bay, but it also allows more water and dirt, lol which I didnt care, it was a wheeling rig, lol.
If your concerned you could, once its all installed, put a bead of caulk around it, but water, snow, dirt isnt going to hurt anything.

You have to realize the entire bottom of the engine compartment is open and water/mud/dirt/etc. constantly gets kicked up into it from down there. Caulking the hood scoop for fear of a few drips is kinda pointless.
