Has anyone ever relocated their rearview mirror? I'm 6'4", so at certain times when I'm driving the rearview causes a major blind spot and I have to bend down to look under it. Just curious if anyone has had similar issues? If not, does anyone know how the rearview is mounted? (i.e. adhesive or some other way) I just want to know if I can move it up.

I moved / angled mine on the stalk as far up as it would go. The mirror is tucked up just underneath the headliner, really improves visibility, and as a bonus helps block the setting sun when it's shining right between the visors. I'll try and post a pic later.

There is a metal bracket (mount) glued to the glass that the mirror slides onto. One way would be to contact a glass shop and have them glue on a mount above the existing one and relocate the mirror, leaving the old on the glass. It is very difficult to remove the old one without damaging the glass. I have seen it done with a heat gun, but that windshield was broken and done to salvage the old mount and reuse it on the new glass.

Or :iagree if it will go high enough a lot less grief.

Sorry for the ultra crappy cell phone pics.
Here is the view from the driver's angle...

...and a closeup for better idea of the spacing...

IIRC this was the first "mod" I did... even before I left the dealer lot. LOL:jester:

4mudder, sorry but can you be a little more detailed as to how you actually moved the mirror? Can the stalk be flipped upside down? Sorry again, just confused.

All I did was push the mirror up (pivoting on the windshield attachment bracket) until it was at the top of the headliner and then I angled the mirror (pivoting on the mirror/stalk joint) to give me a view out the rear window. I didn't flip anything. Hope that clears it up.

Oh, well thanks 4mudder. I'm surprised you just pivoted your mirror. It looks a lot higher than mine.

Damn I feel stupid! I just went out to my Runner to try and adjust it, and realized to stem was on a ball and socket mount. That was easy! I should have looked more closely before I came on here and asked a dumb question. Thanks for answering though.

Now how would this work on the electronic dimming rear view mirror found on the limiteds?

I'm not positive, but I assume you would do the same thing. The stem that the actual mirror is attached to is on a ball and socket mount, which in turn is attached to the windshield. If you look behind your mirror, you'll see that the stem can be pivoted in this socket. You can then adjust the stem itself so it carries the mirror closer to the roof, and then adjust your mirror to your liking.

Hey a free mod! I moved the R/V at lunch-that does fill that spot where the setting sun always seems to be!
It would be funny to do a whole write up with pics for the "rearview relocation mod"!:rotflmao:

You know, it's funny, sometimes it's the really cheap, simple mods that can make such a difference.:cool1:
