Is there any easy way to disable the "auto-down" feature in an '03 Runner?
Every car I own has those things, and they drive me up the wall. I know if you don't depress the switch fully, it won't engage, but I'm too butterfingered (And our potholed roads in Wisconsin) don't make that very practical. Also, the switch seems to have lost some of it's spring, and the line between manual down and auto-down is blurred, unlike our Volkswagen and Volvo where there is a distinct stop and a tactile feedback when you go into auto-down mode.

I’m sure the dealer could do it.
Also if I remember correctly it the battery is disconnected it disables the auto up and down feature. You have to follow a specific procedure to reactivate it. I do not have my owner’s manual here to check though.

That is true. When I changed out my battery and added my Yellow top, my three windows (drivers, moonroof, back window) with the auto up/down feature didn't work. But I followed the reset procedure, and they all work properly now. I personally love the auto up/down feature. Just my 2 cents.

So just the auto-up feature didn't work, or the whole window didn't work?
If it just disables the auto-up feature, I'll just do that. If it disables the whole window on the other hand, that's not what I want. ;)

If you unplug the battery for a while and then hook it back up it will disable auto-up, but after using the window a few times it will re-learn whatever it needs and auto-up will work again, regarless if you follow the procedure in the owner's manual or not.

Just the auto up/down. Everything else worked. I chose to re-set the auto feature because I love the feature personally.

I might still try it anyway.
I realise it's a popular feature, but it really doesn't do much for me.
Is there any software available where you can de-program it all together? With our Volkswagen, I spent $300 to buy VAG-COM and a cable to use it on my laptop... Not only does it read and clear check-engine codes, but it also allows you to adjust engine parameters, turn certain pollution control features on and off (very cool if you own a TDI since the EGR valve will cause the manifold to coke up over time) and remap switches and things. One could, theoretically use it to play a joke on a friend. Imagine remapping the interior switches so the window goes down when you turn on the high-beams, etc. :jester:
It would be sweet if someone would write a similar program for the Toyota...
Thanks to you all for the advice, BTW.
