View Full Version : Squeak!
So my driver seat started squeaking in my truck. Come to find out there is a recently released TSB for it:

Anyone else have a squeaking seat? They want me to drop it off for a few minutes of labor.. :guns:
I think I may just get some white lithium grease and fix it myself.
After further investigation, I think it's my gas tank rubbing the bottom of the body.... :(

I have had that problem a few times as well. I think the more you weigh the quicker it appears :drink:
Anyhow, first time I let the dealer fix it. Second time I just dabbed the seats rails in the front and back with grease and it is gone. Basically move the seat all the way forward, dabs soem grease on both frame rails on the insides of the tracks. Move it all the way back and do the same. And like magic it disappears. Not been back since.
Seems liek my 4R runs on grease. Driveline clunck---grease it. Seat squeaks ---- grease it. Moonroof not closing properly---------grease it. Seems to work like magic. Wish it could be driveshaft broken---------grease it. Transfer case cracked--------grease it :D

I have this. Started ~2k ago. Light squeak under the seat when it rattles a little bit. I should pass by the dealership and make them fix it.

DRop your gas tank skid and check. You might have to pound the skid into shape to get it back though. Mine took some effort to fit back on the 4R.
The seat normally squeaks when you shift your weight around in it, and you should hear even if you are standing still. It works better if you get a fatass buddy to sit in it and move around though :)

Double check that don't just have small rock stuck between the gas tank and tank skid. I have seen that cause a squeek on my older 4runner.
Dropped my gas tank skid and the squeak was gone. Here is a shot of the skid when I took it off:

After some serious banging with a hammer, and a lot of cuss words under the truck I got it back on squeak free. :guitar:

Hehehe, when I did mine it was a pain to get it back. SOmehow after you hammer it back to shape it never seems to fit nicely anymore :guitar:

I was at my dealer today. First, they couldn't find this TSB#. Second, they don’t want to fix it, because they couldn't hear any loud noise. I'm :pissed1: .

Just found in a similar "creaking seat" thread on YT that there is a new TSB, with an actual part fix and not just adding more lube!...

I had a mystery squeak that showed up after the Mojave run, probably due to dust in the interior. I tracked it down to the rear passenger seat on the driver's side. It was the upper half's latching assembly where it grabs the D-shaped anchor. A thin touch of grease got rid of the squeak. ;)

Lucky you! I have the actual Rocking Chair thing going on with mine.

I've been looking through threads but can't seem to find any info on this. I finally put DR coilovers and rear shocks today and ripped out the XREAS. Thanks BTW to Andries and Joel for all your help;) ...but now the front end squeaks and the only thing different is the CO's. The ride is good but I don't remember sqeaks like this before. Anybody else have this happen?

Sometimes the new COs can be a bit noisy. Also on mine the swaybar hit the front skidplates after installing the DR swaybar spacers, as my skidplates has seen some abuse. SO just check you swaybar and make sure it clears the skids and also the COs. And just check to make sure you installed the COs bottom spacers the right way round.

Sorry, Andries beat me to it. I was going to suggest the sway-bar VS skid plate theory as well. It happened on my034runner too. Changing out the skid eliminated it!!
Just my :2cents :2cents

I actually haven't put the skid back on yet. I think it may be coming from the lower shock mount ...i'm thinking of taking it back out and puting some grease around the mount and maybe the mount main bolt.
even with the squeak ...how sweet are those Donahoes!:cool1:

I know Im :deadhorse , but I hate looking like a 4WD minivan. :rotflmao:

well i'm pretty confident now that the squeak/creaks are definitely just from the coilovers. I took everything apart yesterday and lubed everything ...i mean everything. I put grease everywhere in the lower shockmounts and I even put a thin layer between the top billet piece and the frame mount. I moved the UCA's and the lowers all around while the CO was out and everything was quiet. sway bar is definitely not the culprit. I think its just the gonna take a little time to break the CO's in. Ride is saweeeeet though!!
