Well hopfully this problem can be fixed as easy as my last one.
When I hooked up my inverter I disconnected power from my batt(maybe 5min), then hooked it back up. Now I noticed when I fill up my gas tank the milage calculator says I can only go like 320miles on a full tank instead of 400+. So I disconnected the batt for 20+minutes to reset the computer, then filled up again and the its still in the low 300's on a full tank. Anyone have this problem or know how to fix it?

The mileage iindicator guesses the distance to empty (DTE). So when you disconnect the battery it goes back to the factory default adn clears its memory. Only after you drive it a while normally a few tanks or so will it be back to where it was. It uses a fuzzy logic to try to determine DTE using the input from the last few tanks or so.
BTW please tell us how you get 400+ miles on a tank. Mine is 320 or so normally adn can go up to 330 and maybe 340 if I drove nicely for some time, or down to 300 if it was bad with the gas pedal. I normally only drive 300 miles on a tank before I fill.

When my wife drives she gets around 400, on 93 gas she has gotten as much as 440. When I drive I'm used to my 4banger accord coupe, I get milage like you. Almost all of her driving is on the highway, that helps alot. As for the fuzzy logics, thats what I thought, just wasn't positive. Never hurts to ask!!!!

After my recent long drives to Utah a full tank will give me a 387 DTE estimate on the computer and a 19 to 20 MPG estimate. From what I have seen the computer is working with 20 gallons and ignoring 3, maybe for the pad from the warning light until you are truly empty? With the slightly larger tires I have the MPG estimate is pretty good nowadays.

The 4R sems to have a lrge reserve form when the lgith comes on. When I ran mine down into E with the light on, it normally took 20 gal or so. I'm not sure if it actually uses the MPG indicator to calculate DTE.

IIRC our tanks hold 23 gallons max so I am thinking that the trip computer figures that 20 gallons are available at a fillup and multiplies that by the most recent MPG estimate to get the Distance To Empty estimate. I don't think that it considers the 3 gallon "reserve" in the calculation.
I am curious if they are using the gas guage sender and the odometer to calculate MPG as I never heard that they had a flowmeter in the gas line.

Yeah I think the 3gal reserve sounds about right.
The MPG meter uses the fuel injector cycles and odo to calculate the MPG, that is why it varies and lacks a bit in accuracy. Not sure what they use for DTE though.

I seem to show 390-420 DTE estimate when I fill up. I do mostly mixed driving, stop and go on the freeway and some city driving. I do have the v6 some my mpg is maybe a little higher.
I have checked a couple of times to see what the reserve is in the gas tank after the low fuel warning light comes on and for me it seems to be 4 gallons (I filled up 5-7 miles after it came on and put 19.4 gallons in). So 3-4 gallons sounds about right.
Mine shows 240ish when I fill up.. :( :oink:

Mine usually says around 320 when I fill up, but I typically get about 260 miles out of a tank.

You guys with V-8s are having a great time :bigok: based on what I see from your mileage numbers! :rotflmao: If I hot dog on my city commute I can knock my MPG down to 17

Wow...some nice figures from some of you.
My V8 shows 310 max and usually I get around 280. :o:

Well you and Joel are turning 33s pretty much, which measn you are doing more miles than you think. That also hits your MPG quite a bit.

WTF, you can get 320 miles on a tank of gas??!!
Are you driving a 4Runner or a 4cyl. Camry??
I'm lucky if I can get 270 miles on a full tank!! It's usually about 230-250 range, and that's with a V6??!! :pissed1: :pissed1: :mecry: :spank:

Yep, my wife gets aleast 400 per tank, the mpg always says 21-22. The best part, is she even uses the 4x4 for about 8 miles every day. But like I said, the way I drive, I can't get anywhere near that when I drive it. Hence why its her primary truck and not mine.

Maybe it's something in the air in Virginia, because there isn't a chance in hell we'd ever get anything even close to that kind of mileage on the west coast. :mecry:

If I only drove on the freeway I'd see 21-23 mpg, but most of my driving is on surface streets, so I see 15-17.

My stock V8 SR5 shows 381 miles after fill-up with 89, 389 miles with 91. I have about 6000 miles on the car now. I will tell you guys how is the number going to change later.

I usually fill up around 300 miles with 15 – 15 ½ gallons.

Try 12-14!!

Anyhow, it is getting hard to separate the anecdotal data from the methodically collected data. Maybe get at least four folks to record their data on a long drive such as to the upcoming Jawbone trip? A V6 & V8 pair of 4Runners from LA and a pair from LV. If they actually drove together at the same speeds it would be good.
Record:
Start mileage, trip computer data before and after, any gas added during the trip, tire size & pressure, grade of gas

That sounds like a fairly scientific way to do it. Just need to see who can leave here for the Friday morning meet besides me.

Actually, they must drive apart, or at least some minimum following distance to ensure there is no slipstream. Or they could alternate time at the front.

When I said "drove together" I did not mean Nascar style...... :D I know that is how the V-8 X-REAS crowd believes a 4Runner is meant to be used!
I meant that they would be experiencing the same traffic flow, making the same gas and rest stops; so within CB range is good enough.
