View Full Version : For those complaining about the price

For those who have sticker shock that the MSRP of a TE is $35,700. Look at the price of a 2009 sport V6 4wd. Add the EVP to get the sunroof and other stuff the TE has standard. You also have to add the hitch and 110 v outlet. The 2010 TE has (2) 110v outlets. The price of the 2009 with this stuff is $35k MSRP. Considering the 2010 comes with the locker and other goodies I think the price is right where it needs to be. Most Toyota dealers around here will sell them for dealer invoice which should be around $33k

I agree, the price is right about where I expected.

Yeah I guess times change. I paid $39K for my decked out LTD V8 in Nov 02. The later 06+ models had more goodies though, adn I think the 5th Gen actually have some additional goodies, but it seems some stuff might be removed as well.

Besides the dollar is not worth the same anyhow.

My 07 limited was 39k too.

If you want the pu pu plater you must pay.

BTW, what other options do you have for a "family" wheeler? A rubicon JK with hardtop power windows etc, is going to run about the same price. It has a solid axle up front and a locker but the 4rnr has soooo many more creature comforts, more power and better MPG. Besides that everything else is way more money and for the most part, less capable.

Agree with you, Cajun. + the 4Runner has the reliability factor over Jeeps IMO.

Lol I don't think that opinion is even up for debate!

I don't think the price is bad, I think I got my V6 Sport loaded out the door for 32k.

I won't complain about the price of the new 4Rs.
But I will complain about not getting enough raises in my salary to keep up with inflation.

I paid $32,000 in 04. TE doesn't sound that expensive to me.

I think I would either shoot for a demo or wait for a certified pre-owned to save some $$$. I'm pretty thrifty, my basic 05' SR5 was demo w/ 5k miles on it, the sticker was $30k but I got a 6% discount going through the internet fleet sales dept which brought the price down to a little under $25k out the door.

as a year-round mainer who contends with slippery, snow-covered roads nearly half the year, i've come to rely on the full-time &/or multi-mode 4WD enabled by the 4G's torsen center differential. i only complain about the price b/c—without the standard torsen diff—the 5G Trail Edition and SR5 are actually less-capable than the 4G in this respect... so it's actually not a comparable value. ymmv.

After watching the demo video for the 5th gen, it's peaking my interest a little. I am interested to find out more about the crawl control and other new off road features available.:bigok:

I know, it seems to be growing on me a little. I really want to see one on the trails or at least get to test drive one on a "man made" obstacle course like they had for the FJ Cruisers with the Trail Teams.

Do you take food stamps for it?? :jester:

Hopefully dealers are ordering a bunch of TEs as one out of 9 is way too low!!! I these TEs will be very popular.

BTW: I thought it was going to be Trail Grade, and now it is back Trail Edition. When did that change?

Maybe if things work out OK for me, I might be in the market for one at the end of next year. Will have to see though.

What are you guys going to charge for the TE's, MSRP?

According to Toyota, initially...only 10% of build out will be the TE!!!:guns:
Sounds pretty damn dumb to me......But, obviously, the SR5 will be the biggest share of the market, followed by the Limited.....and then the TE @ 10%.

They said, that that can always change...pending the demand for the TE......which I would think will be higher than 10%. :deadhorse

As long as the FJ is still available,I think you'll see much more demand for mall-rated 4Runners than you will for the trail editions.

bulldog
10-22-2009, 12:20 PM
The only thing that would save the FJ is the price. Normally sales of retro styled vehicles drop off quite a bit after the first 3 years or so.

From a functional viewpoint the FJ will not have anything different to offer compared to the TE, and then functionality of usable space and 4 doors come into play. In fact the TE will probably have more features now than the FJ for offroading. KDSS & crawl control.

When the FJ was introduced it had a number of features to differentiate it form the 4Runner at the time. Mostly it was enhancements to improve offroad capability out of the gate. I don't think that will be the case compared to the TE going forward.

Interesting though that Toyota discontinued the SE for the TE, definitely showing a bias towards offroad for the specialized model. The TE also has much improved approach angle compared ot the other models in the line up. I think departure is also improved somewhat.
