I will be installing a Valor DVD/Navigation NVG-670WT double din unit in a 03 4runner and wanted to know if anyone knows which color wire is the "reverse" wire and where it is located. I also need to know where the ignition positive is located and what color it is, im guessing red. I will probably figure out the wires tomorrow but if anyone knows it off hand that will help out greatly. I will be taking pics as detailed as possible.

Thanks in advance.

What system do you currently have installed in the 4R? Std, JBL with 6 disc or factory Nav?

its just standard system, not JBL and not 6 disc, no nav.

The radio has power and then an acc input to switch it on. Power is L-Y and acc is grey.

Can't locate the reverse wire on the non Nav systems.

Attached is the wiring diagram for the stock 6 spk radio system. I also attached the wiring diagram of the Nav system unit.

Good luck.

but can the reverse wire be tapped into from the transmission wiring?

also,
what is the R2A? a wiring harness? thats all i would need to locate? i need the acc, +b wire, thanks for that info, but i need to locate the reverse wire. also, according to the schematic below, there is a mute (brown) wire, for a cell phone, what exactly do you think that is for?

here is the shematic.

another question. from the nav unit harness i have a orange "illumination" wire. but from the toyota harness that i bought at best buy has two orange wires, one is marked "dimmer ground" (orange/black) and the other is "dimmer" (orange/white). im guessing the orange "illumination" would connect to the orange/white "dimmer", if so what do i do with the orange/black "dimmer ground"?

Sorry, but unfortunately I can't help you beyond the above wiring diagrams. You will probably have to do some testing with a multimeter to locate the right wires.

the "illumination" orange connects to the orange/white "dimmer" wire, i confirmed that with valor technical, its looking for a +12. the green/white reverse wire is only needed if you have the backup camera hooked up so i didnt even bother finding that wire since i dont have one. other than that, the installation was a breeze and the top and bottom of the unit are very flush with the toyota surrounds except there is a 1/4" opening on either side. the unit did come with a couple of brackets but since the factory surround fits so nice on the top/bottom, i couldnt use them. i have to fab up something for the 1/4" opening on the sides. ill post pics once i do that, probably after thanksgiving.

Thought I'd post a link for people who (like me) don't know what the hell this unit is.

Looks very slick!

or from metra part# 99-8202

wurmy, thanks for the link to the "side" piece kit. i was loooking all over the place for options to fill in that space. the installation was a breeze, it took me less than an hour and i went slowww. anyways, i love the unit, its really really easy to use. i will take some pics this week and post them. remember, i dont have those side pieces installed yet so the sides look ugly with half inch of space. the top and bottom fit absolutely perfectly. i love all the features this unit has, especially the hands free phone if you have bluetooth on your phone. sound is clear and crisp with no echoing.

also, i put the antenna on the dash instead of mounting it outside. i still get great reception, if i check the diagnostics, im connected to 7-8 satellites 99% of the time.
the dvd player plays all the dvds that ive tried playing on it except dvd-r which i "backed up" using some decrypting software. it also plays divx movies.

i dont have the JBL system, so i dont know how that installation will be, im imagining not too much different. i have the normal stock system. there are a total of 3 connectors hooked up to the back of the toyota stock system other than the 2 antenna connectors. so 2 are regular toyota harnesses and the other is the steering wheel control which has no place to go. so, NO, you will NOT be able to use the steering wheel control but it does come with 3 remotes, one for the back seat passengers, useful if you have rear monitors, the other is the main remote which controls everything and the third is my fav, its the lil mouse style remote which controls almost everything by scrolling the mouse, like you do on your computer.

You got any pics of the install. Been looking at this unit and was thinking about getting one for my 4runner. How do you like? Any gripe or issues?

after more than a year of use and going through 2 units and about to go through a 3rd, i would NOT recommend a Valor unit to anyone. please run away as fast as possible, its not worth the headache these units make you go through. too many issues. you are better off buying the Pioneer F90bt which I am seriously thinking about.
