Well this job is getting done on Sunday after 3 weeks of driving my GX minivan. :) Can't wait to correct the rake, lose the running boards and get some new tires on.

I don't want to put on Icon or Fox Coilovers right now. Just too much $$$ that I want to put into tires and wheels. I can get front shocks and coils for about $500 a pair, but which ones?

I plan to add a bumper later, so I'm thinking of putting in stiffer coils up front right now even if it means a stiffer ride without the bumper. Either that or I suppose I could swap out just the coils later. What say you?

My understanding is that the Bilstein 5100's are love/hate. Ran OME in my first Disco II, and they were decent, but a bit mushy and were a bit short (limited travel), so on my second Disco II, I went to Bilstein 7100's. They needed to rebuild every couple of years, which was a huge PITA. Since I have KDSS, I've learned that it limits my travel anyway, so perhaps fancy coilovers or extended travel shocks are a waste of $$$?

I spoke with someone at Slee who recommended OME Nitros with 885 springs. He said the 886's would be too stiff without a bumper. I can live with stiff for a while, as long as it's not teeth rattling. Comments??

Bilstein with OME 885's set at the lowest setting gives 3" right? So later I could bump it up slightly if desired? Right now I plan to trick the RAS and possibly add a spacer under the springs later before completely switching over to springs eventually. There are already new Arnott Bilstein shocks in the rear, but I think they are stock travel. They came with the truck.

I don't plan to do UCA's. With new 9" wheels and -12 offset I should be good. At least I'll take my chances for now. As long is rubbing is only at full lock, and doesn't tear anything up, I can deal.

While I have it apart, should I be doing anything else like bushings or anything? I have KDSS, so anything else I should know?

I can't believe it's taken me so long to find the forum! I've been a regular on the 'blue room' FJC forum since 2006, and I've become more regular on Expedition Portal lately.

We own an 2007 TRD SE FJ, which technically is our second FJC. I also drive a 2007 GX 470 as my daily driver since the FJ is nearing 100k on the odometer. I also run FJC Magazine and Tacoma Magazine, so I'm glad to have finally found the 120 forum.

I did a couple searches and can't find much information on this. My 2005 v8 runs empty and with out a load at 195-210. When I tow my trailer through the 100* plus desert I've hit 236 and had to turn the heater on and ease off the throttle.

If I stop and let it idle it will get down to 190 in cool weather and 200 in hot weather.

I've had the timing belt and water pump replaced and recently replaced the radiator, thermostat and fan clutch just to make sure it's all good.

The engine has about 120k on it and I tow a pretty hefty toy hauler with it that empty is 5000lbs and loaded as much as 6500lbs. My runner is on 35's and re-geared to 4:56 ratio.

Before I start cutting holes in my hood and looking at bigger radiators with electric fans, is there something else I should be looking at?

Is it possibly a blown head gasket?

I've gotten hot before wheelin in hot weather too while messing around in the sand.

We made it back from a rather wet GSMTR weekend yesterday afternoon. I've never seen so many different generations of Toyota off road vehicles in one place before! We camped Thursday through Sunday morning and besides the rain Saturday morning it was a great weekend. There was only 4 fourth gens out there with three of them being from our camp. These were the friendliest group of people I've ever been around. You couldn't go to the bath house without getting a wave or compliment about your vehicle. I'll definitely be back next year. No one broke down or had to be recovered even though some spots we thought both would happen. I beat on my truck A LOT all weekend and couldn't be happier about it's capabilities. Onto the pics!

Year: 2003
Make: Lexus
Model: GX470

I sold my 07 FJ Cruiser earlier this year, and picked up the GX to fill the void.

The main reason for purchasing this vehicle was the ability to cary additional passengers on longer trips, while the FJ is a great platform and tremendously capable, it lacks room in the back seat for long trips. Specifically lacking room for a rear facing car seat.
The GX also has a larger fuel tank (24 gal) compared to the FJ (19 gal) all the while retaining the same fuel mileage.
It also features the same 4wd system as the land cruiser 100 series (although some say better) utilizing the renowned Toyota TRAC system.
So enough of the background, now onto the build...

This is how she sat when I brought her home. Screaming soccer mom. Man the ride was so smooth.

The next move was to get the front end lifted to accommodate larger tires. After speaking with the guys at Sierra Expeditions, I ordered a set of Ironman springs and shocks of the "B" rating.

After this, the move was to bigger tires. Having good luck with Treadwright in the past, I decided to go with the TW Warden in 285/70r17.

I have an Indel B fridge mounted in the back wired directly to an optima yellowtop under the hood.
Also just received a set of ARB skids to protect the bottom side from TRDParts4U. Pics and installation will be happening this weekend.

That picture was taken on the HWM trip. And is how she sits today.

Future plans include front and rear bumpers, winch, cargo barrier with rear storage configuration, and LED interior lights.

Stay tuned...

It has plenty of gas in it, once in awhile I see when going through a slow bumpy turn with my foot covering the brakes I watch the idle dip to around 400-500 and then it'll come back up to 700ish and 3x its completely stalled so I'm thinking its vacuum or fuel related? I can't reproduce it on command is the only issue, its happened only 3 times in the last 8 months. Anyone have any ideas?

As the title states, I have my airbag light on on my dash. In addition, I have the passenger airbag light showing "off" no matter if there is no load, a full sized person, or a smaller person in the seat. I've tried pulling the fuses associated with the airbags, tried disconnecting the battery to reset the computer, and also disconnected and re-connected all plugs underneath the passenger seat, all to no avail. Any suggestions would be very helpful! (05 v6 2wd runner).

So last Nov/Dec I installed a set of Camburg uniball UCA's. Upon installation they squeaked something horrible. After disassembling them and lubricating the uniball the squeak was gone. Well 6 months later its back. Again, I disassembled them and found that the uniball on the drivers side is extremely tight and can only be moved within the UCA with extreme force (i.e. placing the handle of a screwdrive in it for proper movement). However, the passenger side uniball can be moved within the UCA with as little force as with digital pressure.

How easily should should the uniball move within the UCA?
