Boomer Build 2019

Starting a new thread to document my build. I have to give a nod to the following people who provided inspiration like 10 years ago for the SAS movement...Dave Crosby (Crozhawk), Tim (Roams100), Andries Englebrecht (Bulldog), Wyatt (RST), Abu Sahabi (Sahabi9)

Wyatt Tony Scott at Rock Solid Toys is performing the surgery. https://www.rocksolidtoys.com/solid-axle-swap-kits

Here's the basic specs. Pictures will follow.

Boomer Build 2019

Excellent!!!
Can’t wait to see the pix as it progresses.

chayos00 03-07-2019 12:19 PM

Can't wait! A buddy of mine from Arizona now in Georgia went with Ford Ton's as well! Never got to wheel with him before he had to take it to GA, but dang was/is it a beast!

expat 03-07-2019 01:15 PM

There are so many 4th gens on tons now - its pretty easy to work out whats required which is awesome.

Of course I don't have to worry because other than going to work and earning money to get the job done, I relax and let Wyatt handle the details.

Although I have already written my article for Toyota Owners Magazine lol.

Can't wait for 2021. Abu and I are doing the Baja XL from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas and back. Will be so awesome to wheel in a (mostly) indestructible truck.

bulldog 03-08-2019 07:59 AM

Can't wait to see pix of the Baja trip and read about that adventure!
Sounds like it will be epic.

Nope - I bought everything over the past six months and Wyatt has all of it and I cant get him to point a camera at any of it but there is a film crew documenting the whole build and there will be a short interview, then we will be releasing the link to video.

There will be a delay in getting the transfer case unfortunately. We were going with a Marlin case, attached to the FJ case, but now we are going to an Atlas case instead. The 4Runner Wyatt helped build for the Steel City Racing Team used at the King of the Hammers event this year had the Atlas case.

So from today, as it stands, the truck should be done sans transfer case within a few weeks. From date of writing the case won"t be in until about 2 months time due to delay from Advanced Adapters building and shipping.

Thanks for the update! I want a ride in the new Albino Monster when it's done!!!

Let me ask this since it was brought up and I've been curious about it. I read that the Atlas 4 speed has 4 gears, but couldn't really confirm if they can multiply the gears or not, like having one transfer case and then adding say a marlin crawler to multiply the gearing.

Also at what point would an Atlas be needed (assuming factory xfer case is 100% working) for a regular IFS 4Runner? Would it be more so just to get rid of the electronically controlled OEM one for a manual transfer case?

Also that SCR T4R makes me want that marlin IFS setup! LOL If only money grew on trees! I'd love to rock something like 37's on IFS!

So who at RST drives the lifted Lexus with CA plates RST LEX? I saw them on the 15 yesterday.

An atlas 4spd will have High, neutral and low, then another lever for an additional low.

So..
1) High
2) Low1
3) Low2
4) Low1 and Low2 (aka stupid low)

I have this setup with a toy crawl box (4.7 gears) and a twin stick FJC tcase right now. The "stupid low" setting with an automatic is comical and for novelty use only in my rig. I've yet to be in a situation where I actually needed it.

Hey Kurt, why don't y'all join us for our Easter Mojave Road trip?! Check out the beast you've built. But, you won't really need the 1:1 or 1:2 gears.......but there is someplace that you could use it at.

chayos00 03-13-2019 10:52 AM

In the cases where I saw the demonstration with the "stupid low" gearing was crawling up rock faces with the marlin crawler demonstrating the double low gear multiplier. Guess you'd need some rocky places to use that. I could think of two places where a lower than stock gear could have worked for me, vs launching up and over some boulders and slamming my undercarriage on some rocks doing so. Granted some skid plates would of helped too LOL
