Looks nice, although, I don't know what the strength and reliability of the plastic would be, VS the metal shell. Mine takes a beating back there, especially with roads with a lot of jumps and bumps. etc.....

Nice model. I like the controls up front like that. Do they have a slide that works with it? Also do they have a insulated bag to help keep things cold/frozen when the trucks left in the sun?

I guess what I'm saying is they might not have the accessories that they do for the 45...

The new one looks pretty nice. Wonder if they have a lgithwieght slide for it. It seems to be a few pounds ligther than the old MT45.

Does the index MR040 means that it lost 5qts of the volume compare to old MT45?
Interesting if they also lowered the price.

The MT-45 was 40 liters (43 quarts according to their specs.)

The exterior dimensions look to be the same. Maybe the MT-45 jacket will fit the MR040 too.

Just a thought

Anyone looking onto fridges should call my034runner!! I did after searching all over and it is wonderful, the buying experience was wonderful too and they had the best prices yet too. I did find the transit bag below his cost somewhere though, and he told me get it there. If you want I can tell you where I got my bag from.

As for the new one. My guess is it is larger on the outside slightly, has better better insulation which is why it is larger (plastic is thicker than metal and it probably has more foam too, by a little bit), think nice cooler with the fridge motor etc off the MT45. As a result no transit bag needed, but it takes up a bit more room in your bed than the standard one. I also bet this is more for marine use as metal ones wont last long out side with spray on them, and transit bags wont last long in that environment too, they will mildew. Plus the plastic finish wont scratch like the metal one does, and it will be cheaper to build, and yes slightly lighter. But in a vehicle, I think metal and a transit bag is better. Just my 2 cents.

Rather then start a new thread Ill throw the Q in here.

Is a dual battery set up required to run a fridge? Or will the main battery be ok?

If it matters Ill def be running an aftermarket stereo....headunit, amp, speakers, no subs......and eventually a winch...but not for a while on that one.

Thanks,
Evan

See this thread and continue the dual battery conversation here. Much more appropriate than the fridge thread. Thx

Word to the wise about your ARB fridge. Unlike Engle's the ARB's have a temp gauge on them. I was SHOCKED to see how inaccurate it really is! U put my indoor/outdoor digital thermometer sensor and a refrigerator thermometer in the ARB to get the temp set right. Will both of those say it is sitting at 37.5 degrees. The ARB readout says 6.4C, which should be 43.9F! That may not sound like a lot but it is.

My advice, get a cheap Refrigerator thermometer and put it in your fridge to get the temp set. Also remember you can run a fridge at anything below 40, but for meet etc it really should be below 37F.

In the tall 45qt fridges I have found on mine that the temp varies quite a bit between top and bottom. I have had sodas freeze at the bottom, while the top ones were just very cold. I saw with a remote temps sensor that it easily made 5F or more difference pending on where you put the sensor in the fridge. SO I think the temp sensor on the ARB and the one you used can both be correct, allowing for some margin in the sensor and placement of the sensor. It is just an indication anyway.

Went to the movies, then to Costco today. Was shocked as hell to find my Engel was not as cold as it was two days ago. I was putting the food I bought in, to protect from the 115* heat!!

I hope it was just due to me letting my batteries get too low. The truck started just fine, but when I put the charger on, it was down to like 9%, or 10.5.
Hopefully it gets back to temp now, have it plugged into the wall, and charging the batteries. \

It would really suck if it went out. I'd have to send it back to Engel for repair, it will be two (2)s old in August, just under the warranty.

The Engel/ARB fridges cut off once the battery reaches a certain voltage. I think it is 10.7V or something. If you park your truck in 115F heat and it actually gets hotter inside, the fridge is going to use a lot of power to keep cold. Unfortunately it will probably start to loose efficiency in temps of 130+ with no ventilation (closed vehicle in sun).

Well, it's in the garage now, plugged into the house, and the truck batteries are on the charger. I hope it's fine, it's the first time I've opened it up, and not be anything other than very very cold inside.
I do need to get a thermometer in there though.

I use one of these TwoZone Wireless thermometers. You always have the inside and outside temps displayed right in your face, even if your fridge in mounted in a trailer. It also records max highs and lows so you see how rude the exeternal temps were.
