Default 89 Extracab rebirth

Will try to breath a little bit of life into this place. Although it is the wrong platform I don't think anyone will mind.

From Dec. 2013:
A little background. I have a 1989 Toyota pick up extracab 4x4 with a 22re and a 5 speed. It is currently running 31 tires with 4.56 gears. It has dual cases with 2.28/4.7 and an ARB 4cyl rear diff, the front is open. Many years ago I added Downey 1 rear leaf springs and a set of the 26mm torsion bars. I have owned this since 1990 and have over 215k miles. It was my DD till October 2004 when I bought my 2005 4Runner . It since became a weekend toy and I put on maybe 3-4k miles a year.

It is time to start making it a little more capably. I pulled a set of 1993 FZJ80 front and rear axles to be used. I have purchased a new re-centered Ruff Stuff rear housing that will have the 9 third with 5.29 gears, Nitro long spline cut to fit shafts and an ARB. The front will be the stock LC housing with HellFire knuckles, 5.29 gears, an ARB and possible a set of Longsfields. Final tire size will most likely be 38-39.5 but will start out with 315s.

A couple of old photos

Well deconstruction started in December 2013 and I did not drive this again till a few weeks ago. To say it has been a long process is an understatement. Started out with a simple budget minded idea of solid axle swapping with a stock FJZ80 axle and Hellfire knuckles. 35's , chevy 63's, ARB front and rear with 5.29 gears. A typical modest build.

So the stock IFS had to come off. With a sawzall, plasma cutter, and grinder everything up front was removed. There is no going back now.

As time went on I decided it would be better (an upgrade) to 3 link the front instead of leaf springs. So I ordered a kit from Brian at 4WheelUnderground. After many months the parts started coming in. I figured I could mock up everything, tack it in place and have a skilled welder finish weld it up. Well these types of projects are never so easy.

Holy cow! That's quite the transformation. Gotta go run Last Chance Canyon again, you could probably just drive straight up the side of the canyon.

And are you still running the 22re or did you drop like a 3.4 or 4.7L in there to push those 40's?!
