Default clunk at a full stop

Hey Guys and gals, my 4runner is a 2005 v8 and ive been having this clunking noise when i come to a full stop at a light. It doesnt happen all the time but enough to bug the hell out of me. I thought it might be the transmission fluid so i got it flushed and new tranny fluid put in I also replace both front and rear diff fluids as well but still happens any suggestions? I have 3 and 2 ready lift kit with 1.5"rb body lift and 285/70/17 nitto trail grapplers. THANKS Steve

This is a very common known "issue" with these trucks. Its your driveshaft slip yoke telling you to lube it. When the slip yoke starts to get a little dry, it doesn't "slip" correctly hence the clunk. I lube mine every 5k but it doesnt start to come back until about 10k between lubes. Its a routine mx item that a lot of people view as a problem, Some have even shelled out the several hundred bucks for the Lexus driveshaft which doesn't require lube.

To add onto Synister's post ... I had a clunk too when doing a Full Lock U-Turn immediately after my tiny lift was installed.

It either went away or I just don't notice it anymore.

Plus...I drive my 30MPG-Mobile more these days anyways

See

Just grease the driveshafts, and then keep doing the slip yokes with every oil change till the clunk goes away.

ALthough Lexus will install a new and improved driveshaft in the GX for free (provided the vehicle falls under under the driveline warranty), apparently Toyota does not. We recently had the driveshaft replaced in our '08 GX and no more clunk. Interestingly, the Lexus service writer clearly stated that the new driveshaft does not guarantee that the clunk won't come back down the road, but he hasn't heard any complaints yet.
