Hi guys,
I just bought a gently used Yaesu 8100r ham radio. Includes the mic and a mobile antenna. No bracket or manual. Got it all for under $170 shipped. Was this a good deal?

I had that Jeep thing... But I went to my local Toyota dealer, bought a 4Runner and it cleared that crap right up. |

If it's in good condition, you should be OK - but it is a much older radio model (production started in the late 90's) that could have a lot of air time on it (it's been discontinued at least 6 years (it's programming software came on a 3.5" disc), and did not always get very well reviewed (http://http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/314), even when it was in production...but it has a lot of very useful functions (cross band repeat, full duplex, good audio quality)
As for value - the radio by itself originally sold for $550 or so on the street, so the deal is definitely fair. While I prefer to invest in newer, current models to use in a mobile environment, for reliability, and warranty in more challenging environments, I think you will get your money's worth if it works as it should. Good Luck ![]() Last edited by cruiserlarry; 07-30-2015 at 12:10 AM. |

Based on the serial number, the radio was manufactured in May 1997 and was used indoors as a base station the whole time.

Looks like you got a lot of radio for a small investment with some good functions.
At least the battery won't go flat on you ![]()

Robert...
You know that's how the Brit's indicate that the DC portable power storage device has discharged it's accumulation of electrons and will no longer allow it's ancillary electrical device to function. ![]()

Radio arrived yesterday and works and looks great.
Today I installed it where the CB used to reside. Had to do a little trimming, a lot of cussing, but in the end it turned out pretty good. Here's the finished result... ![]() ![]()

Passed my Tech test!
Finally legal! Should have my call sign at the end of next week, once the FCC updates their database.
