Thanks Josh and Shuly. A particular out to Shuly for posting the ham info and planting the seed on the Bodie run.

Congrats Forest. I have basically the same setup as Mark (probably a different antenna) and it's a pretty sweet and heavy duty radio. With APRS my family and friends can see where I'm at, but i haven't even scratched the surface yet of the radio's features.

I went to our local HAM monthly meeting a while back - was quite interesting people watching... I'm going to check out the local Amateur Radio Emergency Services group sometime soon, they are more civilian disaster preparedness oriented and that is more interesting to me.

It's just as easy, if not easier than the Tech. There is a larger question pool but some of it is review and you will be a little more comfortable with the material and how it is presented after getting your Tech. You'll pass it without any problems.

Congrats Forrest and Blair!~

i actually overslept on saturday morning its hard to get up at 7 on a saturday when you get up every other day at 6. so i ended up taking my wife out to breakfast. i decided ill just continue to study the tech course and also the general and ill knock them out on the 10th of october (which is the next class ill have time to make) there are a few this weekend but ill be at the rubicon followed by a cruise the following weekend and camping the next so I'm sure ill have some down time to cram those courses. i found a great iPhone app that i have been studying on. there are a couple free ones but they were limited in the question pool so i saved my pennies and forked over the 5 bucks for the app

but i guarantee i will have my licensed by DV, ill have to if i want to talk to anyone! hahaha

BTW: if you have 10 people or so on a channel, does everyone have to check in with their call sign every 10 mins?

Josh, to answer your question briefly.

The ten minute station ID, is required every ten minutes if you're transmitting. At the beginning of your QSO, and at the end of your QSO per the FCC.

BTW: I can tell you've been studying.

Thanks for that correction Shuly.

My understanding was that your ID was required at the beginning of a QSO.
