Default Mono Lake, Laurel Lakes, Bodie Sept 3-6

Exploring the Eastern Side of the Sierras

Doing Bodie, Mono, Laurel Lakes adn various other lakes and interesting points
September 3-6 (Thu-Sun)

Updated info:

Camping:
We will be camping at Oh Ridge Campsite by June Lake
We have campsites 132,133,134 & 131/135
- Water and garbage facility
- Bathrooms
- Not sure on picnic tables
- Should have fire rings, etc.
- Some trees and shade

Campsite location.

Driving directions:
350 miles north of Los Angeles and 150 miles south of Reno, take US 395 to its southern junction with Highway 158. Take 158 1 mile. Turn right on North Shore Drive. Go approximately 1 mile, turn left on Pine Cliff Road. Go 1/2 mile to entrance of campground.

Camping fees:
Individual - $18 a night



Weather
Sunny weather with High 30s at night and High 50s to probably 70s (pending location) during the day

Agenda

Level of difficulty is planned on being mild. With maybe some fast dirt roads

Thursday
Meet up in the afternoon early evening and set up campsites. Base camp and fire, kitchen, etc. Have a nice dinner


Friday
- Get up to leave pretty early around 8:30 AM as it will be the longest day
- Do Bodie Ghost town via Bridgeport (fill tanks if needs be)
- From Bodie go down to Mono Lake and try to drive around it and stop at interesting sites
- Get some cool pix of the Tufa by South Mono Lake
- Do a nice dinner & chill by the campsite

Saturday
- More leisurely day so we can leave around 9AM
- Go to Laural Lakes
- Go through Mammoth
- Devil's Postpile
- Inyo Craters
- Go to the Hot springs or head back to June Lake and other lakes in the area for water fun
- Remember to pack towels, bathing suite and flip flops & any flaotation devices might be useful??
- Chill out and play it by ear
- Nice dinner

Sunday
- Pack camp, breakfast and head out 9:30 AM (or so)
- Go to Pioneer Town via Burn Cyn & 2N61Y
- Check out Horse Meadow by the 120/395 crossing
- People heading out will go after lunch
- Folks can stay Sunday and do some additional runs/sites



Food
Breakfast and Lunch is on your own.
Dinners are casual, but plan to cook 2 dinners and enough to feed a few mouths (4 or so).
We will probably end up sharing everything at every meal as we always do.

Comms :
- CB channel 31, if there is an issue with this one we will change at campsite on Sat Morning
- Ham 146.460 (4WD Ch2)
- Ham repeaters in area :
  • NW6C 146.7300- PL100
  • KB6DWO 146.6550- PL131.8

Late Sept. early Oct. will be getting cold. Elevation is 8,000 ft + there.

bummer, Should do it more like early aug and ill be there. Im working in june lake for the summer. I want to do all of those but im not going to go alone...

It shouldn't be too bad just yet. We can always make a plan for accomodation

Fall seems to be the best time to go to catch the leaves turning color, etc.

If my schedule permits, I'd like to go as well. I should have my sliders on by then, however, I'm running 31's so that might be an issue.

Oct 3-4 (maybe add a Friday or Monday?)

On some of the trails yes, but there might be issues with others. As we don't have the details planned out yet, you will probably be a tentative till we have more info/ detail. So just keep following the thread.
