Default Movin' time!!!

Yup, it's time to move from Texas back to California. My retirement is in force and it's time to go home. Planning to leave on 27 March towing the wife's car on a tandem axle trailer. Will keep track of gas mileage for towing about 5500 lbs on stock gears and 33's.

I had that Jeep thing... But I went to my local Toyota dealer, bought a 4Runner and it cleared that crap right up.

Yes it is right in the middle, but I think I'll have to stick with NorCal all the way. I grew up in the bay area, my grandma is in SF, dad is in San Ramon and mom lives in Pittsburg. I used to cruise Concord, Walnut Creek and Clayton as a kid.

Chris it was great wheeling at the coast w/ you. Sorry we didn't get out more often than that. Good luck in Cali and remember...Texas still loves you.

Thanks Rob,
I'll always remember the good times and sand wheeling. Remember, you're always welcome to stay with us whenever you visit the "left" coast.

Ok, finished the first two legs of the trip.

First leg, Killeen, TX to Clovis, NM: about 490 mi, we hit that bad snowstorm sweeping through NM, TX and OK. Between the hills, vicious crosswinds, headwinds and towing about 5800 lbs, my fuel mileage has been abysmal. About 8 mpg for the first leg, 175 mi to a tank!

Second leg, Clovis, NM to Flagstaff, AZ: about 540 mi, much better weather and less wind. Fuel mileage is still bad but much better than the first leg. Still climbing hills and hitting altitudes of 5000 to 7200 feet I'm averaging 11.5 mpg all on the interstate, about 240-250 mi to a tank. I'm sticking to the speed limit of 70-75 mph.

With stock gears and 33's the engine spends very little time in 5th gear and downshifts constantly. But... it sounds so sweet singin' at 4500 rpm.
I'll post a pic of my towing setup in the morning.

Well, here's my setup. The truck squats a bit in the back but handling is still good without wandering. Total weight is about 11000 lbs. Tonight, Fresno or bust!

Safe travels Bro. Slow down a bit tho. Towing all the weight...reduce speed and save of gas too. Hope you arrived on plan with no drama.
