OK, time to start planning BBB VII.
Updated info: Camping: We will be camping at the Oso Group Campsite - Water - there is actually a water spigot in the middle of the camp, close to a bunch of picnic tables. I didn't see anything mentioning potable or not. There is also a bathroom sink with running water. - garbage facility - there were large trash bins in the parking lot - Restroom - large bathroom facility with flush toilets, urinal and sink. - Picnic tables - Plenty of picnic tables, some grouped together and others scattered about. - There is a BBQ place and fire ring, campfires are allowed and charcoal BBQ (this can however change at the last minute) - There is an amphitheater with large group fire ring - Trees and shade - Space for 25 trucks and 100 people (might get a few more trucks in if needs be) - More info see http://www.recreation.gov/camping/Os...e=NRSO&chkAg=y For latest conditions see http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardin...ns/index.shtml Campsite location. Driving directions: Located 32 miles northeast of the city of San Bernadino, CA. From I-10, take the Alabama exit in the city of Redlands, to Lugonia Ave (St Hwy 38). Head northeast on Hwy 38 for approximately 28 miles to the campground entrance. GPS coords: N34.17583 W116.86056 Folks not sure how to get there, should caravan or ask to meet up at the Discovery center. Camping fees: $509 for the whole site - I paid already. So there will be a fee of $30-35 per truck for the weekend. We have 16 trucks so far, but will have to check final numbers Friday for final cost per truck. Please pay Friday so we can use the extra funds for firewood Saturday. Weather As of 7/4 the forecast is :- Fri: Partly Cloudy - High 78, Low 52 Sat: Sunny - High 77, Low 51 Sun: Sunny - High 78, Low 50 Agenda Friday Meet and setup camp. Folks who come by early enough is advised to go to the Discovery center/Ranger station on 18. They have plenty of cool map books and maps. Some guys may go out on Friday to explore some of the trails in the South if time permits. Informal & decide at camp, preferably very small groups of 3 or less trucks. Will have a nice BBQ on Friday. Saturday 3-4 groups on trails as per assignments listed in post 2. Plan on leaving camp by 9AM or so. Be back early evening 6-7 PM for the Big Bear Braai BBB. Sunday - Pack camp, breakfast and head out 9:30 AM (or so) Decide at camp if people want to stop by Pioneer Town or different groups, that may want to head in different trails. Food No formal meal planning this year. Try to cook a few extras on Friday and Saturday, as well as bring some side dishes to share. Typically a few folks may opt out of cooking in the evening and make breakfast in the morning. Pack portable lunches, as we will have them along the trail. Maps and comms, etc Comms : - CB channel 31, if there is an issue with this one we will change at campsite on Sat Morning - Ham 146.460 (4WD Ch2) - Ham repeaters Option 1 146.385 + PL 146.2 on Keller Peak Option 2 147.330 + PL 131.8 in Big Bear (Sugarloaf Mtn.?) Option 3 147.645 - PL 103.5 - We will use a repeater between groups and CB for in group comms Maps : Map link http://www.toyota120.com/forum/showthread.php?t=378 Very nice map of the trails in the area http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardin...hNewsprint.pdf You can also buy maps at the Discovery center (highly advised).
