Dude what a pain. Glad it came off though. Hope the next one doesn't give you to much fight. If I was close by I would lend a hand.

WTF!???? Never seen that before.

I picked up new bearings myself from Glenn at Radflo a couple days ago. I hope mine are nothing like this! I don't think I've removed mine in 3years.

Sorry it was such a heart ache for ya. Persistency paid off tho. Bravo

Ya I dont think most are like this and I am very surprised mine was that bad. But if this is the only thing I have had to do in 5 years of running these, I'm okay with that!

Now that I have the new bushings and new bolts in (picked a set up from Toyota) its time for a weekend of Beer and camping.

You can find me here

Man I moved to Bend back in Spring and I've seen some rusty vehicles; but nothing super serious like you'd see in the Rust Belt. I wonder why they seized up on you like that? I actually was actually dealing with some squeaking a while back and while hunting for the noise I applied anti-seize to the bolt and inner surfaces of the heim joint/spacers to make it easier on me if I ever had to take them off later down the road.

Glad everything worked out for you man! Wish Portland wasn't like 3 hours away from Bend.

Can you post the link to the bushings you used on the new bolt.

for some reason the bushings I got were too small for the stock bolt? So I ended up buying another bolt that was similar but slightly smaller for the bushings I had.. which fit perfectly but not in the actual shock bolt hole, it was just slightly too small.. its not right So i want to put back the original bolt with new bushings..

I don't have a link.

If you contact Radflo they will send the proper heim joints/bushings, thats how I got mine.

Definitely added antiseize to the bolts this time! I believe I did when I installed them but I never went back and reapplied. Going to try and be more vigilant about checking on them and making sure they are in good shape.

My rents are looking at getting a spot in Bend so I'll be visiting up there more often if they do. If that happens we'll definitely have to meet up or we should meet in the middle for a camping trip/trail run

Will do, I think I found it on their site. It looks to be about 30 bucks?

Glad you got it straightened out, your build has been one of the inspirations for mine.

After looking at the bolt and the heim that came out. It looks like the heim cracked in two and the weight of the vehicle was just pressing down on that bolt since the heim wasn't doing it's job and failed. That's my analysis, lol
I hope the new heims serve you well my friend

Bobby

Well, I finally replaced my lower bushings that were clanking pretty good for about six months.

What a PITA - damn bolt on one shock was not coming out despite beating on it, heating it etc. I thru a bunch of tools at it until I realized the damn bearing was fused to the bolt.

I was also replacing the lower control arms so eventually I cut right thru the bolt eye tabs to free the shock from the LCA.

In this picture you can see the new bearing (without a bolt thru it) - top of picture, and the old bearing with fused bearing - bottom of the picture. Note the outer part of the old bearing was completely loose on the inner part. This is what caused the rattling. Note that offset spacers were also fused to the bolt!

Put a bunch of tools to it!

Eventually cut thru the bolt eye tab on the LCA

woah! Glad you got it but also glad I didn't have to cut my bolt off like that. I was really worried I was going to have to cut it out and was trying to figure out how I was going to do so without affecting my LCA.

Great job getting it though!

I'm about to do a full rebuild of the 2.5" coilovers. Did you guys replace the upper heims too or just the lower ones? Might as well do all of them while I'm in there. I'm taking them to a local offroad shop to rebuild the internals, but I'll be doing the heims myself

Thanks

I didn't but radflo asked if I wanted to when I ordered my lower bushings which made me wonder if I should. I will one day.

I mainly wanted to get my lowers done so I could get an alignment.

Man I will need to check mine at some point. Hope I don't run into this.

I typically try to use Boeshield on hardware like this when I mount it to help with issues like these. I have noticed when I do remember to use Boeshield it does help a lot in the long run, WD-40 just doesn't seem to stay on for long.
