I've always spun the bolt a bit more after it was loosened up with my air gun and then tap it out with the end of the ratchet once done. Has always come right out, but I do also live in AZ, so little in the way of rust around here. Oh and I also have the LCA free of any pressure on it when taking it out.

+1 on the above.

Make sure there is no pressure on the bolt/arm either up or down. Then I use the airgun on the bolt while giving it a little tap. Always seem to break free and slide out. On a few stubborn ones I had to use a punch to get it out all the way.

The bearings go into the shock eyes with circlips so they will be narrower than the eye. Also the top bearing is normally smaller than the lower.

Default Help!

Alright guys, really attacked this yesterday and I got no where. Could use some help.

I used everything I had to try and get this bolt off and it just spins and spins with the spacers spinning with it. Seems like they are seized on there. I used PB blaster and let it sit and still nothing. Used pressure on the bolt while using the impact driver and nothing. Used force (with hammer) while using the impact driver and still nothing.

What are my options? I'm about at wits end and getting super frustrated with this.

Am I left with cutting it out? I would like to avoid this but it seems like I don't have any other choices. I'm even thinking about forfeiting and giving it to a shop to deal with.

Any advice on direction would be greatly appreciated.

see if you can get a chisel on the end off the bolt and bang it straight out.. I dont think its threaded into anything other then the nut on the end which it sounds like you already got off... its just sitting there.. .. take pressure off or adjust pressure on the LCA with a floor jack as you do it..

Let me know what happens.

Try using heat in the bolt and hen give I some smacks with a hammer. Hen heat again and then try to loosen it. If it's just spinning might be seized. You can get a small torch from Home Depot.

I'll give a chisel on the other side a shot. Thanks! Hopefully will have time this week to try it out.

Bobby, will that loosen the spacers off the bolt? I was going to try that but didn't think that would do it. I will give that a shot. Needed an excuse to get a torch anyways.

Doug, heating it up will expand and contract the metal. Hopefully that will break the bond of he corrosion. You can also try a 3/8" extension to hammer the bolt out.

Bobby

Sorry, but I'm totally baffled how this isn't coming out for you if you have the truck lifted with the weight off the LCR.....

Do you have a some sort of metal punch you can put on the end of the bolt, with a nut just mostly threaded on so there is some space, but a good contact point for a punch and then getting a BFH (big frackin hammer) and then a second person to hold the punch on the nut and knocking the bolt loose.

Does the bolt spin when you use an impact driver on the head? I.e. is it stuck to the LCA, the bearing or the spacers?

For stubborn cases I removed all load from the bolt, CO and LCA, then used an impact wrench to spin the bolt in the unscrew direction while tapping the front (nut side) of the bolt out with a hammer towards the head side. Obviously I left the nut on the bolt front to prevent damage to the thread.

The bolt and spacers spin freely of the LCA and bushings. Its just the spacers are seized onto the bolt.

It's looking like I will be able to get out of work early today and get some time under the truck to give this another shot.

I have tried with load, with no load and with minor load and all got the same results.

Do this and pray.

Are you talking about the cam bolts too or just the lower bolt that holds the coilover on the lca?

That's what you would think I've hit this bolt hard and it hasn't budged

I know these things can be super frustrating. Spray it with pb blast and let it soak for a few minutes. Then Heat it with a torch, then try Turing the bolt with a wrench, heat it again and tap it several times while cooling, then repeat if needed.

4 hours later I got it - well the passenger side is done. Holy crap that was a PITA! Bet you've never seen one this bad, I didn't know it was like this.
Time for a beer.

This is how the bushing came out

I have a replacement bolt and spacers on its way from radflo.

I'm just glad it's out and the new bushing is finally in.

Thanks guys, I live in Portland, OR so rust is somewhat of a factor but not much. Nothing like the rust belt. I am really shocked it was this bad.

Bobby, it was the heat. I kept the torch on it and then immediately got the impact on it and saw the spacers were holding (not spinning with the bolt) so I actually had to put a little load on it and it came off about half way. So I took the load off and then reheat it but it still wouldn't come off. So then I had to use a metal punch like @chayos00 mentioned and it finally came through.

What a relief!

Thank you EVERYONE for all of your help. Every single bit of advice helped get this sucker off.

Top notch guys here!
