Default CB Questions

I was just wondering what you guys think is the best CB antena? and also where is the best place to mount it? I tried to search a bit and just wanted to see everyone's opinions. I will be going with a Cobra cb btw. Thanks in advance.

If you have no concerns with it getting knocked off the Wilson 5000 is good or for a shorter whip that stands up better to trees etc. the Wilson little will, both have got good reviews here.

The 5000 will succumb to trees, so look into the Lil Will, also a mag mount.

Dont really know how to answer your question...you want a measure of force required to knock it off?

It probably the strongest magnetic mount available. If you regularly drive in locations where branches are low (within 18" of the roofline) then I'd recommend you mount a CB antenna at about hood level.

The thing about the 5000 is the long whip. You can always swap for a shorter whip and use the same 5000 mount.

Is there a major difference in terms of what is better/more powerful?

LOL no I wasnt looking for actual force, but you both did answer the question. Where is the best spot to mount these since I dont have aftermarket bumpers?

Center of the roof. You want as much ground plane (large flat metal surface) as possible around the antenna mount.

I just ordered Little Wil yesterday on amazon $32.50 shipped.

http://www.amazon.com/Wilson-Magneti...7827288&sr=8-1

I got a Radio Shack magnetic and it didn't stick well.

Awesome!! thanks guys, I appreciate the responses!!! Last question...... how are your antenna hooked up? where did you run the wire(s)? and is the antenna affected by a roof rack in terms of mounting?

I need more links you just keep me hanging

To answer the OP's question, on the Taco I simply ran it thru the back slider window (temp solution til I got a firestick). On the runner, mag mounted the little will adjacent to the C pillar and ran the coax laterally thru the weather stripping on the left rear door, zip tied to the cross member of the roof rack.

Here's how I installed mine. BTW I'm running a Little Will so this might give you a direct point of reference.

In dash CB install

Links and the little box that says... Search are your friends....

Surprising what you'll find if you use them.....

Default WIlson Lil Wil

So I now have the Wilson Lil Wil and I have it mounted direcctly in the middle of my roof. I ran the wire down the roof rack and through the grommet for the rear window. I only got as far as bascially the floor of the cargo area as the wire comes out by the bottle jack. What can I do to get more length? Where can I get an extended wire? and where is the best place to run the remainder of the wire to the front? Thanks again.

To get the coax to the front of the truck where the cb is located...

You'll need one of these:

PL-258 adapter

Coax cable here:
http://www.walcottcb.com/coax-cable-...8_355_437.html

Or if you know how to solder...make your own custom cable.Just buy the PL-259 coax connectors and a length of coax to reach your CB.

You could route the cable under the carpet then under the track in the door sills on the passenger side.
