Does this make any sense?

That's one of the ideas I've throwing around. The same way Lance made his bumper (see my first post here). I think we have to come up with a design first and then we can think what we can make from fiberglass to reduce weight.

The center portion of the bumper is seperate from the sides. There may be opportunity to leave the sides alone. The problem with this is the center portion is not as wide as the vegicle so making swing aways etc is complicated. Also it would be nice to have some side protection.

Things get much more complicated and more difficult to finish with a clean looking long lasting product once you start cutting into those sides so it is worth considering alternatives that dont require cutting or removal of the side portion of the bumper. I am not neccessarily against cutting into or removing the side portions of the bumper but it definately complicates the issue.

I am pretty sure that the bumper skin on the 2006's is different and all one piece to the sides. If you go with the just center section, you will limit the bumper to only 03 to 05 bumper styles.

No. My design which I'm providing to the fab places is complete replacement.
I know that shape of the bumper is similar and the difference is just in details. What I'm thinking of is that rear door and rear panels are the same for both models, so the new bumper should fit 2003-05 and 2006-07 models.

Wait until you're happy with it! If you're not happy we probably won't be either.

I like how clean this one is for earlier gen. Especially clever on the side. Just an outside wrap around piece.

I think it would also be important for there to be some type of stop for the swing out. You wouldn't want the tire/gas carrier to strike the rear quarter panels.

I like the looks of that and its utility, holding the tire, cans and Hi Lift

I like the design of that bumper, but would like some improvements on it though.

Have the hi-lift tilted, so it doesn't stick out too far. 3 cans, a latch for each arm with gas shocks to limit the swing,, but also keep the arm open, even when parked at an angle. Lastly a hithc reciever tha can be bolted on when needed and taken off when not.

We have an advatgae with the 4th Gens in that we have beefy mounting/bolt on points in the rear center crossmember. This will help with towing recievers as well as beef up in the center of the bumper.

Hey Everybody,
Just wanted to introduce myself here. My name is Jason and I work with Steve at CBI. We are super busy right now and have not had a chance to give the bumper the final "tweeks" we want to. We have had many discussions on how to make it the way you all (the customers) want it. Be patient and we will have something to you all just as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience.

Jason

I'll see if I can get some pics. of the bumper this week. May not be until next week before I can post them. The bumper is looking good, it is difficult to keep the stlye points up while keeping functionality at a premium. This has to be one of the hardest bumpers to design we have faced. Once again, thanks for your patients and we should have something for you all soon.
