Replacing CV bands

Had a leak for a while so decided it was time to fix

Needed a couple of basic items

Bands in two sizes
Tube of CV grease
Tin snips
Injector and needle

Band specs:

Sizes of hose clamps

small
SAE - 9347410 - 3/8" 304 Stainless Steel Hose Clamp 1" to 1-5/8"
METRIC - 9347410 - 9mm 304 Stainless Steel Hose Clamp 25mm to 40mm

Large
SAE - 9347493 - 3/8" Stainless Steel Hose Clamp 3-1/2 to 4 3/8"
METRIC 9347493 - 9mm Stainless Steel Hose Clamp 90mm to 110mm

The bands I purchased are rounded so they don't dig into the boot like conventional bands from hardware stores. I had to get them from a marine store.

The leak

Removed the small band by prying open the two tabs

This releases the band

Then cut the band

Clean up the CV shaft then inject grease into boot to top up. (This I found really hard to do. It was very hard to squeeze the grease thru the injector and the needle but eventually put in about half of the injector.)

Then place new band on and crank up - be careful not to over tighten and tear boot

Done!
