Default Loose valve cover bolts on V8

I recently saw signs of oil leaks at my last oil change, and could smell oil burning. Tracked it down to looking like it was coming from the valve covers/bolts. Thought it may be a gasket(s) going bad. Checked the bolts and it ends up most of them were so loose that I could turn 'em by hand .

Decided to torque them down, clean the engine, and will monitor closely to see if that resolved the issue.

Interwebz shows torque spec at 53 INCH pounds. That's INCH pounds, not foot pounds. Foot pounds is 4.4...don't f that up or you'll crack the cover at the bolt holes. Mostly easy access, removed the air box stuff for better access on passenger side. Think that was 12 or 13mm and the valve cover bolts were 10mm.

Apparently these loose bolts are a thing so may want to check yours out. As a data point mine's an '04 with 110k miles.

Party on .
