Default Kurts 97 4runner

I've been meaning to start a gallery thread for awhile. I know I do not drive a 120 series but it seems the only people I wheel with are members on this board.
My pictures are also scattered around (ttora,ih8mud,ultimateyota etc..) so here is where they will all come together.

So anyway, here goes.

Current setup as of 03/04/2010

Front Suspension
Donahoe/Icon Extended coilovers
Total Chaos upper control arms

Rear Suspension
OME 891 Coils
Bilstein 5100 series shocks (sonoran steel)
FOA 2" 2.0 Air bumps

Armor
Budbuilt Skid and belly plate
Home made front bumper
Home made rear bumper
Home made rear lower arms (ballistic joints)
Stubbs welding sliders

Drive train
Motive 4.88 gears
E-locked rear, open front
Nitto TG 285/75 on 16x8 Land cruiser rims
Tundra 199mm front brakes.
FROR Full float rear disc setup, chromoly rear shafts.

Misc
Icom 208H Ham radio
HID converted PIAA lights
TrueFlow Intake and filter

The day I bought her.

(parked next to my go cart)

Flexing out the stock suspension on a rock in Joels front yard.

Upgrading the factory calipers with a set of Tundra calipers/rotors

Bent my rear lower in Tie Rod Canyon in Las Vegas

My V1 design using 1.5OD .250 wall DOM with johnny joints. I kept popping the snap rings and ditched these after a year or so.

V2 (current) is a stock 3rd gen bushing on one end and a 7/8 chromo heim on the other. Same as Mikestang, My034runner.
V3 (place holder, work in progress) stock 4th gen bushing and modified Ballistic Fab 2.6" forged chromo joint.

My brucets bumper copy.

More build pictures for it here.

Then I had to go hack it up and add a carrier to it.

Had a little accident, but it provided a great picture of my budbuilt parts.

Front bumper

More build pictures for it here.

Some overkill sway bar links I made, yet to install.

I had some huge daystar poly bump stops in the rear that compressed way to much. In order for them to do their
job they had to be set 2.5" above the axle which made handling any kind of bump really ruff. So I
cut off the factory brackets and made some mounts for a set of FOA 2.0 2" air bumps.

My next scheduled mod, once the weather warms up a tad.
Front Range Offroad (FROR) Full floater rear axle conversion with supra rear disk brakes.

I was pulling a trailer with about 2 yards of top soil when it basically shot off to one side and dragged my truck off the freeway. When the dust settled one of the tires on the trailer was blown and the spindle for that tire was bent. Not sure which went first but it was scary.

Damage was unbelievable... No broken or cracked glass anywhere on the truck. The truck was actually resting on the rear bumper so other than the passenger fender and passenger mirror there was no damage. The rear bumper is a tad tweaked and will get rebuilt this summer.

Tow truck winched off the slider to get the truck back on all 4s, and I actually drove it home. I'm just really glad the RTT as off the truck that week.

thats awesome. sounds like you landed perfectly. Sucks that it happened in the first place though. I could really use some sliders and bumpers.

How do you like FOA bumpstops? Why did you choose FOA? Are they better then FOX, ProComp, LightRacing?

What tires are you running, so you went to 4.88?

Sam at Samco just charged the FOAs for me the other day, so I have no feed back for them yet. Are they better than fox/king etc... probably not, but they are way cheaper and for what I am using them for they should be excellent.

Small update, I have yet to make contact with the air bumps but they continue to look cool.

Had a bunch of people over the other weekend to assist in the full float setup and consume beer. Still sorting out some issues with the calipers but all in all I do like it. The truck rolls smoother now if that makes sense. Probably from having nice fresh new bearings.

Hose fittings in town makes custom brake lines while you wait. 2 braided lines for $35.
27.5" long. 10-8 m10 banjo on one end, 10mm inverted flare on the other.

Using 1/2-20 lug studs instead of the standard toyota ones. Much more thread engagement and a slight strength increase.

Hub with chromoly axle.

ABS wires still need to be removed.

Big weekend, the rear bumper is off and is never going back on. Looks like I tweaked it pretty bad when I had the truck on the side. That and it now looks silly with the limited flares being removed.

Tweaked.. Side is pushed into the truck. I used to be able to get a finger in between the body and the bumper.

Before

Removal and Tape

Lots of sanding.

Holes filled with metal tape.

Time for the durabak

2 coats later

Done. (front bumper needs a little trim now)

New rear bumper construction should begin this weekend.
