Default Is the rear diff on Taco's and Hilux the same?

G'day all,

I was wondering if any of you intelligent forum members here would know or be able to know how to find out if the hilux rear diff is the same as the Taco or FJ diff, or 4runner for that matter?

Why? Well Ive been in contact with a company here in Australia that is starting to bring over from the States 4x4 gear for local toyota's and they can give me a good price on a Detroit Locker but they are having problems finding if the part numbers for the Hilux and the Taco's and/or others are the same.

Can anybody here give me a hand with this?

How would I find this out?

I know my Hilux runs a 3.73:1 rear diff ratio and thats about it. Im assuming they are the same, but I need to be sure.

Yes they are the same 8" rear unit. ARB lists the same lockers for the Hilux, Pickup (taco), FJC, GX470 and 4Runner.

The only one that is different are the shim adjusted Dana axles (I belive US only).

going by that link you just sent me which ARB locker would the Taco and Hilux be sharing?

Looks like the hilux would be using the RD121 - 8" IFS 3.73 and down.

Is this the same with Taco?

For the front yes. 3.9 and up uses the RD111 and the 3.7 and down the RD121. The carrier is offset on the front, pending the gear ratio. That is why there are 2 different lockers from ARB.

FYI if you regear from 3.73 to 3.9 and up you need a different carrier for the front. Most folks just get the locker at that time anyway. Rear doesn't matter as the carrier design is different.

Nope, no factory e-locker for the hilux's here...pretty shameful really, considering the harsh environment we have to travel here.

Only place that I have heard in the world that gets a rear diff e locker in the hilux is South Africa.
