Default Please help, UCA Ball joints BAD ?

If anyone can help me I would appreciate it a lot. I am stuck away from home, and I can not drive in safe way, at least I feel that way.

What caused this; nothing that I can think of. Decided to wash my car after year or there about. Power sprayed it, wax it and done. Went on ride and got heart attack. Car was shaking like crazy, bouncing from left to right, jumping. Stepping on breaks makes car go back to normal, until next imperfection on road is hit.

I think it is UCA Ball join. I have ICONs all around, so if I need to order it, that is fine, hoping they will work with me.

Bellow is video of what I discovered, after having this experienced, as I was trying to figure out what cause this.

If attachments does not work, please try link:

Can you get a better video of the balljoint? It looks like it's way too loose in it's socket. I'm wondering if something is wrong with the UCA as well.

I have tried to make it tighter, as you are correct, it is way loose inside. However using torque wrench, it is set to proper amount, and it will not go any tighter.

One thing that is different, as I was checking it, whole ball joint is turning in direction I was tightening it, left or right, it all moves inside UCA housing.

One more to add, both side of car are doing exactly same thing, this loose fitting is present on both wheels.

Can you please hint as to what you feel is wrong, I will try another video from each side.

Thank you for any help.

There is not much I can order or do as everyone is closed for holiday, but hoping Tuesday I get this resolved. Found ICON dealer in in town I am in, hoping they are friendly folk.

thats what it looks like. You need to take the tire/wheel off and inspect the tapered adapter that goes through the uniball and into the spindle. Both the nyloc nut and the flanged cap screw both need to be torqued down to spec. No way would I drive that thing. You might have to replace both UCA if the uniball has routed out the inside of the UCA's.

Another thing to check are the 12 point screws near the hiem joint to make sure they are torqued down too.

Weird that it is happening on both sides. Possible installation malfunction since it is just not one side. I'd also call Icon about this. They have been extremely helpful to me when I called and ask some stupid question as I was going through the learning process.

Installation instructions:

I'd love to know how this could happen on BOTH sides immediately after a car wash LOL. Something not adding up here.

As above - don't drive it and give ICON a call.

Here is what I have after removing ball-joint assembly. I am not sure if there were suppose to be any ball barrings inside, between, two rings?
I do not have any, it is empty space, and has room to move around, video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9kx...ature=youtu.be

and

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOs8...ature=youtu.be

There is some rust in there, and small scratches.

I am guessing I ran out of lube at some point, and this is what I got.

Tomorrow I will try to chat with ICON people, and check local ICON dealer for repair kit.

Holy crap dude! I would be , how long have you had these on your truck for and who installed them? Something is way wrong with this and I have never heard of these going bad either, especially both sides. If it was torqued right this shouldn't of happened. I can not view the last two videos but it should be just one ball bearing in a cup, it is held in with a snap ring.

Could it be that the liner disintegrated within the uniball? They don't look very lubed either. Defiant need to replace both of them. Looks like the outer casing is fine so hopefully the new ones pop right in without any compromise to the UCA itself.

Camburg sells them for $100 - $130. Just make sure you get the right diameter. They come in 1, 1.25 and 1.5 inches. I think the Icon Billet UCA's are 1 inchers.

Just spoke with ICON team and sent them link to this post and images to finalize diagnosis.
They also do not suggest any lubing unless squeaking is present, if needed wd40 or Teflon based lube.

I had about 30k miles on them since installation.

Not too surprised, I have had to replace uniballs yearly here in CO, just looks like a worn uniball, replace them and all will be well.

As you mentioned above, definitely don't use grease like you have slather all over them either, just attracts more dirt and wears faster. The heim ends are probably toast as well.

Thank you ALL very much. ICON guys said they reviews videos and it was "ball joints" no question there.

Also, he made sure to reconfirm NO lube of any kind in there, as it attracts gunk and makes them go bad, I can confirm that.

Now just waiting for repair kit to arrive.

Good to hear they're taking care of you. Just seemed odd that both side went bad at the same time. But it can happen

Yeah, something like Tri Flow works great... when needed. Also TC makes an adapter tool you can use to remove the uniball. I have never used it but this should help when you have to replace them.

Always a fun videos to watch on how to replace/install a uniball/UCA by Camburg.

Well it is all done. Replacement was super simple, new balljoint slipped just right. Note for those doing it 1st time, there is no need for any kind of heavy press to get them pushed in. Align "rings" properly and slight tap will do.

I did have to get professional alignment as my wheels were slightly off, but that was no big deal.

Once again, thank you ALL for all your help.
