It's now time to replace the headlight assemblies on my 2005 SR5. The oem units are about $200 ea, but there are several options on Amazon for less than $100 for the pair. Has anyone done this themselves? Are there are challenges to doing this in the driveway? Is there a particular replacement that you'd recommend?

Headlight Update – I’d have preferred to get OEM replacements, but passed at $400+. After doing a little on-line research I ordered a set of CAPA certified TYC replacements from Rock Auto for $112, including very fast shipping. After seeing where some of the mounting bolts are, I opted to have a local shop do the install. The lights are a well-made replacement with good fit and are significant improvement over the cracked, faded and leaking originals. Unfortunately, QC could be a bit better. In one light the small lens covering the amber sidemarker light came loose and so the assembly had to be returned. Assuming the replacement is okay, I think these will be solid fix.

I need to fine sand my 06 headlights also, starting to haze a little on the passenger side.

Good luck with the Rockauto ones.I recently replaced one of my headlights due to water getting in. I tried resealing it but it was tie to replace them at 12 years old. I use only Toyota parts and order online from Conicelli Toyota, they usually have the best deal.
Replacing them yourself is very straight forward. The links here on the forum for the instructions showing all 3 screw holes and one side bolt on the fender. Just take your time. The underlight body garnish is attached to the bottom of the headlight as well and will need to be released from under the light itself.

Any updates on the TYC ones? I am about to pull the trigger on a set. Both my oem ones on my 05 have cracks.

I got the TYC ones, took about an hour to put in and get the alignment acceptable. For $100 I am really happy with them.

I'm thinking it'd be a good idea to spray a coat of clear spray for UV protection,.no? My DEPOT lights are on their way and I wanted to be proactive.
