Posted this response on another forum on how to buy a GX with KDSS. Just wanted to share here.

So here it goes.

Gentleman,

The idiot car salesman in charge of listing the GX's for sale on Autotrader are notorious for cutting and pasting INCORRECT descriptions in their ads. They don't bother to remove the KDSS from their descriptions because they don't know what it is and whether it has it or not.

I ran into this problem ALOT when searching for mine. The only way I was EVER able to get them to verify KDSS was with the color of the wood. If the wood was Dark Grey then I would ask them to take a photo of the drivers side frame rail so I could see if it had hydraulics.

DO NOT rely on descriptions but instead the PICTURES of the interior trim. I found some with KDSS that didn't have it in their description and vice versa.

If it has brown wood it doesn't have KDSS. If you find one then let me know and I will eat crow. I will need photo verification though... They never take pictures of the KDSS hydraulics running down the frame on the drivers side or the THICK sway bar unless you ask them too.

In 2009 when I bought mine, I only found about three clean GX's over about a six month period that actually had KDSS that were priced how I wanted them. Out of those three only one had the silver I was looking for. I bought that one.

I actually bought it from Denver site unseen and they shipped it to me in Houston for about $700. I have NO regrets. Love my truck!

It was a 2005, 47k miles, KDSS, silver, Nav, Levinson... Paid about $26900k and some change including shipping. Of course this was in 2009.

I owe about $4800 on it. Yea me!!

Like I said on the other forum that is not true. For those that don't know in 2004 you could order KDSS but there was not a Sport model yet (that option started in 2005) so it had the light wood trim. Also KDSS was sold as a stand alone option by Lexus. You did not have to order the Sports package to get KDSS.

There's a few members on clublexus that special ordered their GXs new w/ KDSS and w/o the Sports package. They said they did not like the dark wood trim or the silver left and right silver radio / navi trim pieces.

You cannot go by the exterior / interior trim pieces since you can order a non-Sport KDSS GX and you cannot go by the KDSS light on the gauge cluster since it can burn out. The only way to know 100% if your GX or a GX you're looking at has KDSS is to look at the front and rear sway bars. If it has this, it has KDSS.

I sold my Lexus. Thanks for following my thread. If the new owner starts a thread anywhere I'll point this one to it. He already has an off-road trip planned.

The idea was to make the Lexus a dedicated wheeler once I paid it off to replace my Nissan. I couldn't bring myself to scratch it since I always had a 91 Nissan that was a dedicated wheeler.

I changed my mind so I recently replaced my Nissan with a 2006 Rubicon Unlimited and replaced my daily driver Lexus with a 2014 Madza 6 that gets twice the gas mileage as my Lexus did.

I miss my Lexus but I am paying for my new car with the money I am saving in gas. Can't beat a FREE car!

It seems that like most people that bought a 2wd vehicle, they bought the gx and then got the offroad bug and were stuck with what they got. My is that the GX is a much too pretty vehicle to buy as a purpose trail rig and begining build.... You already tow a trail rig... I would rather ride in the lex as THE TOW vehicle. Just too pretty and not very capable IMO... Yes, it is the 120 platform, but again... my

This thread sucks because like most FORUMS images get broken. If you want some Lifted Lexus eye candy you can reach me at the following Facebook Page.
