Yep it's the bipolar Carolina weather, lol.

I am actually in Indian Land, SC right down the street from Ballantyne. If you ever need a hand with an install or something send me a PM.

Does anyone know if the entire roof can be swapped out or is it welded on? I am planning on swapping out the headliner for a non sunroof headliner. Will take some fabbing but I think it's doable.

The metal roof? Pretty sure it's spot welded from front to rear then sealed up with sealer. I'm sure the roof can be re-skinned but it's a lot of work, I once owned a truck that I had the roof re-skinned at it was about a month project for the body shop. There may be a few things that need to get cut off underneath but I would think a non-sunroof headliner would work.

I say go for it, I want to do the same thing to my 2008.

Same issue here with the rattling moonroof - Doesn't rattle when tilted open, but annoying AF when down. Tried the modified plastic washer around the guide rails solution but that did not do anything unfortunately.

I ended up putting in some flat telephone cable around the front edge between the glass and rubber seal per what I had seen on one of the other forums.

Seems to be working for now and can still use the sunroof, even though i rarely do. May supplement with the pool noodle solution if the rattle comes back.

Default Permanant moonroof rattle fix

After completely disassembling, cleaning, lubricating, adjusting, executing TSB's on my GX470 moon roof... still rattled...The problem is the glass in not biased under spring tension from wind deflector in the "closed position" it is in open position. The gasket surround on the glass shrinks over time allowing the panel to move and rattle. Purchased 2 small die springs from the hardware store and placed them in the sunroof channels under the rails then disconnected the motor. If the moon roof motor were connected the springs would not allow the mechanism to close causing possible damage, so the motor will remain disconnected with label note on connector. Moon roof is now fixed roof with glass panel, completely rattle free, much better... Only other solution in my opinion is new glass panel/gasket for ~$550, or set on fire.

False. I am touting the addition of die springs in the tracks as a permanent fix.

I'll post a pic to make it clear. It really does eliminate all movement in the mechanism. You just lose the ability to open it, easily reversible however.

I think we've all been tempted to set the damn thing on fire after messing with it for so long

Yeah I wish you the best and hope that does fix it for you!

Everyone's rattle is slightly different. Mine was from play in the assembly hinge arms. NO fix for this aside from sealing it shut or replacing the entire assembly. Did that twice. Mine would literally jump up/down at speeds above 50mph.

Others have found that wedging a partial plastic grommet or moon shaped piece of plastic into the track putting pressure onto the pull cables solved their rattle.
Others have been successful with adding a piece of old phone wire in the lip of the rubber seal portion or tape along the seal making a better seal. All of these are temp fixes unfortunately and reports back later prove this as well.

I hope the pressure from the die springs works for you, just don't ever use the thing again and call it a window. You can actually pull the overhead sun glass holder and disconnect the motor plug to prevent future use. If you decide to go that route.

Best of luck and post back with your long term results for others!

I know what you mean. I've been tempted to trade my 4th gen in a few times because of that stupid rattle. In the end, 4 rubber shock bushings around the frame helped quiet it down and it certainly was a lot cheaper.

It's the real reason I wrecked mine.... just kidding!
Definitely made sure there was no sunroof in the new car though. I wish they worked better, I loved that thing until it broke.

The rattle really makes me wish I never had a moonroof! LOL It's like I want to mess with mine, but I don't want to get to the point of removing the roof liner to get a good fix on it. But then like you guys say it's not always a permanent fix. Makes me wonder if I stayed stock and had a smoother ride on my truck over the years if it wouldn't be as bad as it is now.
