Default 2010 California Tour

As many of you know, I drove from Houston to California and back for the 2010 Pismo Jamboree but there was a little more to this trip than that so I thought I’d start this thread and share the whole adventure with you guys.
Enjoy…

Starting out, beginning to back out of my driveway in Houston…

Welcome to New Mexico

Just crossed the state line now in Arizona…

Welcome to California (sorry for the poor picture quality).

I stopped for Gas near Twenty Nine Palms and came across General Patton’s Museum so I took a couple pictures of the Tanks outside.

It took me 26 hours to drive from Houston, TX to Riverside, CA. Here’s my mileage thus far (from my driveway to my parents' driveway)…

Hungry Valley…

On or way to the top of Frazier Mountain.

View from Frazier Mountain.

Flexing at the Obstacle Course…

Oops!!! I learned the hard was that you shouldn’t have sodas in the truck if you’re going to blast down sand wash roads with whoops. Three soda cans blew up and knocked the door off my Coleman Fridge leaking all over the back of my Runner. Good thing I brought my Sham-Wow with me to absorb all the soda from the carpet, there are no stains in the carpet. Thanks Sham-Wow! LOL

Exploring scenic trails…

Views along the trail…

After a couple days of wheeling and camping at Hungry Valley, it was time to pack up and head 129 miles Northwest to Pismo!!!

Oceano Dunes South entrance…

I posted a bunch of my Pismo Pictures on the Pismo Thread so you guys can check them out there, however I'll post this one of my blown Rear ICON shock since I drove 1,748 miles home on it.

Sunday afternoon I aired up and packed up to start making my way back home.

I drove to Riverside that night, to layover at my parents’ house, along the way beautiful Santa Barbra...

Monday afternoon I made it to Texas and stopped at a cheep sleazy motel a couple hundred miles past Van Horn (not staying there again).

I made it home at 12:30pm on Tuesday. Here is my total mileage at the end of this trip (back in my driveway in Houston).

Cheers!!!

Hey Will,
It's so cool that you made the trek to see us back here in Cali. I can't believe you drove from Riverside to Houston in what?... 1.5 days!! That's insane dude. You must have downed like... a case of Redbull on your trip.

Really sorry I couldn't make it to Pismo this year...

I had that Jeep thing... But I went to my local Toyota dealer, bought a 4Runner and it cleared that crap right up.

Your picture for Santa Barbara is an oil well in Ventura. The SB county line is several miles north of that location, with the city proper being another several miles north of the county line.

When we were growing up my friend's little sister thought that oil tank island was Gilligan's Island, and she wondered why they couldn't get off when there was a pier to drive on.

Yeah, once I got on the Highway I didn't want to stop. I'm sorry you couldn't make it to Pismo too, hopefully next year!

I couldn't tell what city I was in there, trying not to run over the cars in front of me (way too much friggen traffic on 101). Now that you mention it, that island does look a little like Gilligan's.

WOW that was a little harsh. I lived in SB for 2 years (18 years ago) and that pic reminded me of the whole scene. Yes you are correct it's a little further south but in that general vicinity And that, at the time was the furthest north that there was an in and out... good eats... good times.

Next time you're there, Miller Jeep trail is far more fun... Hungry Valley, well, it leaves me hungry!

Thanks Jon!
I looked up the Miller Jeep trail and I know where it is, it's a pretty extreme trail that takes you up Frazier mtn and you can enter in the back of Hungry Valley. We would have driven it but I didn't want to chance breaking anything because I had to drive back to Texas. If I can get a class C motor home with a flat bed trailer for the 4Runner, I'll do it for sure!
