Default '09 Easter Mojave PreRun.....

Ed and I took a nice Easter Mojave Pre Run on Sunday. Got out a little late, but had a good time.

Went to Searchlight, topped off and headed down Nipton Road. Was trying to run into the SoCal TTORA desert guys on the trail, and actually found them at the Nipton Trading post!

Said hi to a couple of them (kind of helped them plan their trip a little), they headed one way, we went the other, and headed into the Mojave Preserve.

Eventually hopped on the Mojave Road @ Cima/Kelso Road, and went up to our campsite @ Beal Mountain. inspected that, then up to the Mojave Mail Box. Added some items to the Mail Box, and signed into the Trip Log Book.

Then we headed down in search on the Lava Tubes, as this is going to be one of our side trip on this Easter Mojave trip.

Made it the Lave Tubes, and went down into them and checked them out.
Cool as hell!! You are all going to dig it!!!

After we were done their, and talked to a tourist from Chicago, we decided to go an alternate way out. We followed Aiken Mine Rd. to Cima Rd, and then down some back roads in the Ivanpah Mountains and ended up on top of Mountain Pass!! Have to thank Ed for talking me into that trip, as he mapped it out on his laptop as I was climbing around in the Lava Tubes.

Pretty nice Sunday drive...except for the nasty ass wind!!

Here's my photos.......

Nice scenery pics ever have any 2wd's on this trip, or are the trails too technical for a 2wd rig? might have to tag along sometime.

I'm going on this trip with Robert. I have a stock '04 4Runner SR5 2WD. Only thing I did on my rig is add beefier tires (BFG AT KO's 265/75/R16) and my recently installed Rear Differential Breather (for the afton water crossing).

I'll let you know how it turns out...I'm sure I'll be fine. I've taken my stock runner on stock Bridgestone Duelers through some trails in Anza Borrego and didn't get stuck...here's my trip report http://www.toyota120.com/forum/showt...t=anza+borrego

You're in good hands with Robert and the boys. It kills me that I have Easter plans and I'll be planting trees in Big Bear with the TTORA SoCal guys while you're having a blast on Mojave Road! I can't wait for the August/September trip. I'll definitely be there since that is quickly becoming a tradition for JRidd and me...

I did the 2006 Mojave trip with Robert, fully stock including tires and was fine. I did hit some rocks on my undercarriage from having lower clearance but it was no big deal.
