Default Safari Snorkel SS135HF Installation on 4th Gen 4Runner

This is my personal experience with installation of Safari Snorkel from '97 Hilux 2.7L into '05 4Runner V6. Meanwhile I've decided to post my write-up in case some members will want to do the same.

Parts I used for this project:

1. Safari Snorkel - SS135HF

2. aFe Cold Air Intake with ProDryS filter - 51-81162

3. Tools:
- screw drivers
- socket set
- metric wrenches
- 4" Bi-Metal hole saw
- drill
- dill bit set
- Unibit (step bit)
- utility knife
- 2 heat guns

First of all I had to remove the inner fender. This was a little bit chalangebale as Toyota used square plugs. To take it off and then reuse the plugas I had to carefullu pop up one corner of the plug and then using a thin pancher remove the plug from the inside by using the gap I made. To prevent breaking them up and future service I pluged the plugs to the body and used screws with 10mm hex to tighten the inner fender. By doing this I can now simply unscrew it without removing the plugs again. Much easier for future services and more convinient.

Attached the painting tape for easy workout and visibility.

Carefully position the snorkel to the body and verified the location of it for future template placement.

As soon as location was verified, the template was placed to the fender and holes marked.

NOTE! Verify the hole locations twice before drilling them out.

Using 4" hole saw drilled out the "big" hole. Then drilled the mounting holes using small bit as pilot hole and unibit to make them 16mm diameter.

Snorkel comes with studs for mounting. To prevent them from unscrewing I used blue Lock-Tied compaund.

Now becoming the most dificult part. As you can see from the previous pictures, snorkel has diferent vertical angle then the A-pilar. Basically this hapenning because of the fact that our fenders are more curved then Hilux one. To make it match I need to bend the upper tube 15 degrees to the outside. I've done it in several steps and taking measurements between each step. Using a 2 heat guns heat outside and inside of the snorkel (read right and left) and bend a few degrees at the time then letting it cool down to prevent the plastic tube to collaps. At the end it was done and fit perfectly.

To connect the snorkel to the intake I used supplied by Safari Snorkels rubber "L-shape" hose, but had to shorten it to make it fit to the inner hole in the fender. Our is located further to the rear compare to Hilux.

Before attaching the hose I had to mark-up and drill the mounting holes in the A-pilar and mount the bracket there. After all this done the hose was finally attached.

With 15 degrees home bend snorkel fit the fender pretty much nice, but still has some gaps. By tighten the mounting bolts 1/2 way, then another 1/4 and then finally last 1/4 in the following order I managed to get it very streight.
lower front - lower back - upper front - upper back - center.

I used aFe Intake as it has sealed box to supply the air from the snorkel to the engine.

After some searching I manage to find 5"-3" reducer which perfectly fit outgoing snorkel hose and inlet on the aFe intake. I slide the adapter over the snorkel hose. and sealed it with silicone.
