Default About Fed Up with OW/ Radflo 2.0 Racket

Gentlemen,

My suspension is getting noisier every week. I have about 70k miles on it now, only maybe 2 years old though.

Before I call RadFlo, is there consensus on the common sources of noise these things make?

Every morning when I back out the garage I get clunks, and when driving over certain features I get rattles & racket. The second may be correlate able more to extension (i.e. pothole) than compression (i.e. speed bump).

It's make my truck sound & feel like a POS and I need to figure out how to change it...

Again I think I need to call but I want to get all input possible prior...

A few of us have gone over this a few times. The Radflo 2.0s appear to be noisy while the 2.5s are not. I've never had a peep out of my 2.5s. It seems to have to do with a specific metal bushing used on the piston of the 2.0 that causes the clank.

welcome to my world - I have 15k miles on my Radflo's and they feel just about shot. I have never been happy with the Radflo 2.0's; clunky to say the least.

From what I've read, the internal shims is what causes all the noise. Apparently there is a compang in CA called PGP that will revalve these radflos, and remove that internal shim.

Hate to hear these issues with the 2.0"s I would suggest a 2.5" shock/ coilover setup. I have been pretty happy with my 2.5" Radflo's up front, but they do make a slight thud over large bumps. Which is a normal sound for coilovers. Do you have anyone near you that can let you drive/ride in their 4Runner?

I'll be contemplating a different setup eventually. Toytec might be the solution for onroad compliance with offroad capabilities.

They were initially just a little noisier than stock. Now they're building over time, to the point they sound like I'm driving a ****box when going over potholes.

... and no, a I don't accept this racket as "an off road truck should make noises." LOL. People that aren't bothered by rattle trap POS's... buy Chevy's.

I'll call Radflo, then PGP if I have to I suppose.

You might need new bearings or even a rebuild. I would contact Radflo directly and ask for Glenn or Mike 714-965-7828

I talked to Mike and he was helpful. I will post results of my investigation when I have them. I'm sure they read the forums from time to time so thanks for the guidance Mike.

I had similar noises with mine. Called Radflo and they first said it was installation error. After going back and forth a few times, they agreed to take a look. $150 later (shipping), I was told they were in perfect shape and it was the nature of the beast. I never put them back on my 4runner, switched to Icon and not a single issue.

Another reason why Radflo sucks - there first response is always 'must be an installation error'. I was told the same thing twice when we installed the rear shocks and the shock pins where broke both time.

I would also be interested in any updates.

After 70 000 miles , the bearings on the shocks are going to have worn to a point where they will make a noise.

The upper and lower bearings are wearable items, and as such we are not able to predict how long they will last.

There are a number of factors that influence how long the bearings will last. These include how the vehicle is used as well as local road conditions in winter.

They were quieter for about a week, then moved around again and were noisy again.

I talked to Mike today... (spring = windows down, = noises are a problem again LOL).

There are now Stainless Steel lower bushings available. Apparently at some point there just mild steel.

I have ordered four stainless bushings (no bearings) and will try those and report back. Hopefully this cures the issue 1) now and 2) for the rest of the vehicles life.

I really want the quiet back, great suspension is being compromised by this one issue. Can't wait, I have high hopes. Kick the summer of right sort of thing LOL. All the other vehicle maintenance items are done, so hopefully this is a nice finish.

New bushings and bearings getting installed tomorrow.. Might take a few days of testing to really determine results, with rain windows are up and that hides some of the racket. Plus I need to hit some pot holes and give them a chance to make sure they don't move around etc. But, finally, something is being done LOL.
