Default Shrockworks 5th Gen. Rear Bumper... Completely revised!

Hello everyone. I know there's a long thread on another forum about this, but I thought I might post this here as well. As some know, I had the honor of loaning my rig to Shrockworks, so they could redesign their rear bumper.

In this first set of pictures, we fitted the rig with the Hi-Lift and a single Jerry can. Of course, we left the Gobi ladder on for good measure to ensure a proper fit.

After this first round of photos, I felt I had to solve the rear camera issue. With some quality advise from some friends at Car Toys, I opted to bypass - rather than relocate - the rear camera. We started with a Kenwood CMOS-220 unit. Next, we had to get it wired to the factory head unit with an Audiovox TYRVCH OEM harness. This is an inline harness that will bypass the existing camera and is for all intents and purposes, essentially plug and play. With a bit of adjustment on the camera, you'll end up with an awesome solution for towing and/or pure safety. Especially note the last pics that show just how well the solution aligns me in the parking spot.

(In case you're wondering... the camera is in the very center of the swing out.. the small square less than 1" square.)

Last but not least... after swapping out the rear Icon 2" springs with Icon 3" heavy duty overland springs, I took the rig back to Shrockworks to incorporate the (removable) receiver hitch and change up to a 2 Jerry can configuration. Below are the final pics..

Again, as I mentioned, I swapped out my rear springs immediately after getting the new bumper. Before the new rear bumper, I ran Shrockworks front bumper (and winch), full skids, rock rails, and Gobi's roof rack and ladder. All that was well supported with Icon's Stage 2 suspension. Having pre-loaded the front coils a bit, the rig rode completely level.

After installing the rear bumper, the rear did in fact come down SLIGHTLY. (About 1.5 inches.) While the visual aesthetics were barely visible, what you WILL notice is that the rear end felt a little "floaty". It reminded me of the feel when I was loaded to the brim in the rear.

Because of these dynamics, I swapped out the standard 2" lift Icon rear springs with Icon's 3" heavy duty overland springs. Doing so raised the rear end about 1.5"... again making me level. But more importantly, the ride again felt "solid".

My thoughts... if you're not running skids, roof racks,rails...and/or you opt not to have the tire mount, you may well get by without the need to upgrade your springs. But... if you're completely built out.... you'll be doing just like I did.

Looks great.

However, I would quantify a 1.5 inch drop in ride height more thant 'slightly' haha.

Very clean, I like this integration much better than the 4th gen.

I like it!! Jim Shrock strikes again, with a killer 5th gen rear bumper!! Does the ladder open up with the rear hatch?

Here is my Shrockworks rear out on the trail. Even used recovery points to anchor another 4runner to which out of the mud.

That bumper looks great. My only gripe is how the swing arm hinge is so exposed on the corner.
