Default Rear window help please

If I disconnect the battery or the control modules in the rear hatch, the rear window will roll up and down properly for a couple of days. Then it quits working again. Rear wiper isn't working either but I haven't been paying attention to see if it works again after the "reboot". Rear washer and latch motor work all the time.

It seems as if a "reboot" briefly cures the problem and then in comes back.

Any similar experiences or recommendations on repairs?

Does it not work at all till you disconnect power, or does it roll up and down but just not all the way automatically?

Doesn’t work at all until reboot.

Tried resetting with key in the hatch. Tried resetting with dash buttons. Rear wiper is in it’s cradle. Rear window appears to be all the way up.

I'm wondering if it is an issue with the sensor that indicates the rear hatch is closed. What happens if you open/close the hatch after it stops working?

So I tried that and no change. The hatch switch appears to be working properly, when I open the hatch I see the dash light come on.

On another note, I tried the reboot again and it didn’t temporarily fix it this time but it has in the past.

try closing it with the key in the rear hatch and open, top to bottom, that usually resets it. If it thinks the rear window is open the rear wiper will not work. The process is called initializing.

If Initializing process doesn't do it, it might be some sort of short. Maybe a fuse or relay going out.

So initialization doesn't help. It seems rebooting it solves the problem for a short period of time and then it stops working. Problem is constant, not intermittent. Which relay(s) control the back window? Does the control box in the rear hatch control it at all?

Check out the wire diagram
http://www.toyota120.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2772

Almost sounds like the motor is dying on the window. Try the fuse and relay first though!

I can't seem to find the associated relay in that diagram link.

is there any issue with the auto feature on the drivers window? The relay that controls it is the same one. Located under the kick panel interior. Looking at the diagram it sounding like the rear window is goin in to "Jam protect mode" when it jams into something then stops working:
The ECU and regulator and motor are all inside the back rear cargo door.

From the repair manual for "Jam protect mode" under windshield>windowglass>power window control system:

WS
(a) Remove the power window switch.
(b) Check the continuity between the terminals of the switch
connector when the switch is operated.
Standard
OK
NG
2 INSPECT BACK DOOR POWER WINDOW REGULATOR SWITCH ASSEMBLY
B062904
Terminal No. Switch Specified Condition
3 ←→ 1 Down Continuity
6 ←→ 3 ←→ 1 OFF No continuity
6 ←→ 1 Up Continuity
REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND
CONNECTOR (SWITCH - BODY ECU)
REPLACE BACK DOOR POWER WINDOW REGULATOR SWITCH ASSEMBLY
